Most of the fillers were pretty lame, but a few, like ep 101 where they try to get Kakashi's mask, were pretty good.

I do believe it is overrated for what it is, still a decent Anime/manga, but there is so much more out there deserving the attention that Naruto is sucking up. Furthermore, sadly, I think it's headed for another line of filler as it is slowly but surely catching up to the Manga. As slow as you think it's going the show still covers anywhere from 2-3 chapters a week and seeing as the manga only comes out with a single chapter a week it is inevitable that the show with again catch the manga and be forced back into the limbo of filler. The only thing that could savee that is the manga ending in some spectacular fashion in the next few months, and I just don't see that happening.

With the rate that the Naruto anime is going, it would take like a year to catch up to the manga...
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Sasuke arc..
Kakuzu/hidan arc..
Find Itachi Arc..
Currently Pain arc, I guess..

Now, with Bleach, that's a whole different story.. The anime there is seriously catching up to the manga.. But there are already fillers scheduled up ahead for Bleach..

IMO it's better when series don't get much attention. Naruto is kinda shunned 'cause it is so popular. There is no helping it though with all those kids.

Why do everyone drag the anime into the picture? The anime is nothing more than a money milking industry. There are some decent eps, but it sucks overall IMO. The manga is drawing money as well but on another, somewhat acceptable level.

And it's not 2-3 chapters pr ep. I haven't watched for a while, but it's more like max 1.5 chapters per ep. The Rescue Gaara arc was ca 30-35 chapters and the anime was 30 eps.

biggrin cool

I already quoted you on the words you put in my mouth, or would like me to do it again?

Quote from Mr. sickVisionz
How can you be an anime fan but wish for the failure of all anime?

I NEVER said anything of the like no mad That's seriously offending on my part...

Quote from Mr. sickVisionz
He's mad because he went to an anime convention (which in general is a place for people who have more than a casual interest in anime) and saw people that liked Naruto. As soon as he found out that the show was more popular than he originally thought, he hated it.

-I already knew people who liked Naruto.
-'As soon as'? How would you know if I decided in that exact moment whether or not I decided to stop being a fan? I actually considered it before, not just all of a sudden deciding to hate it.

Quote from Mr. sickVisionz
You went to an anime convention and saw people cosplaying and started to distance yourself from it, no?

Once again, how would you know whether or not I began to distance myself because I saw people cosplaying at an anime convention? I noticed it long before then, I just used the cosplayers as an example of the irritating fanbase.

Quote from Mr. sickVisionz
I'm still looking for the part where I put words in your mouth.

Well, do you see it now? smile

Quote from Mr. sickVisionz
In your post thats the ONLY thing that you bought up.

That's my point. This topic is simply about clc88 trying to figure out whether s/he wants to keep reading/watching Naruto. Naruto gained a fanbase that I didn't like and didn't want to be a part of, and I was merely pointing it out to clc88.

Were you ever a fan of the show? I've never understood the concept behind people claiming to like a show and then when they see others liking it, they hate the show. The writing didn't change, the concept didn't change, NOTHING CHANGED. Its like you never liked Naruto, you just took pride in something that you thought was unknown to the general public.

The more people that watch the show, the more money the creators can get and the more successful anime is. The more successful it is the more shows get made and bought over to the US. How can you be an anime fan but wish for the failure of all anime?

Thats not true at all. The animation style and pace of the show change tremendously from Naruto (original) to Shippuden. Both of these were and are critical factors in why i would like Naruto, and really any anime. also the show sort of started progressing in terms of plot in the start of shippuden, so its possible people did not like the way the plot was going and stopped watching. But all in all your statements wrong. biggrin

Quote from Mr. sickVisionz
The writing didn't change. The animation didn't change. The story didn't change. They didn't fire all the voice actors in exchange for cheaper ones in order to get more profit. Nothing at all changed except its popularity level in his mind.

again you're wrong

And to address op, its over-rated/anticipated because it contained something that made it very popular. Thats all. If you don't see anything in Naruto that you think would make it popular, or even appeal to you, then you probably should spend the time to read/watch it. biggrin

i was also a fan at first. honestly, because of it's popularity i think it's gotten worse. but it's not because of the exclusiveness. it's because of its popularity that naruto became worse since the countless narutards and the like demand more shows, which compells the writers to make the anime longer. this demand contributed to the number of fillers that completely repelled me from ever watching the naruto animes again, and it spoiled my interest of naruto manga, too. i like naruto, but after sitting through a bunch of fillers that did nothing to move the plot forward, i realized i didnt care anymore. but dont worry, i dont wish for the failure of all anime (a little too melodramatic for me). biggrin though the realization that there are better animes than naruto wouldnt hurt.

and the manga changed too. after the four year shift (...?). the manga lost a lot of its old comedy and the story seemed to slow down. (to me that is)

hm, i guess naruto is anticipated mostly because it has the right amount and elements of action and it's one of the better drawn shounens. and it's about NINJAS. everybody loves ninjas (unless you're that hobo guy who's family was killed by ninjas, of course link). the fact that it's popular kinda gets other people hyped/started up on it too (follow the trend train)

Man where do you guys live?? Is there really that much hype, cosplay and shit? Then I'll def stop reading this lol /ironic?

Man no offence. I know Naruto is hyped, and I agree it don't deserve it considering there are in fact other good animes 'round. But who cares 'bout the anime?? This is a manga forum (though the anwear to this forum lies in the anime). I know from experience that animes based on a manga usually sucks compared to the original work. I've stopped years ago judging an anime/manga based on the other. Rule number 1: See/read the original 1st. This is almost always true.

Considering the pace in Naruto I honestly don't understand why people say it's gotten slower. It's always been slow. Being slow is trademark for every mainstream manga. It's generally slow 'cause of the action and the space it requires. In western comics they usually don't use the same amount of space, by far, in their way of expression. One of the longest fights in Naruto was in the very beginning (Naruto/Susuke vs Haku). The only difference now is that it isn't as original anymore like it was back then, for obvious reasons. I've read Naruto for nearly 6 years, and other than the arts I can't say much of the story telling or plot progression has changed.

biggrin cool

"Narutard".

What does that mean? A person who cosplays as a naruto character? A person who likes Naruto alot? Combining anything with the word "retard" is degrading to me. The odd thing that I can't wrap my mind around is that you like the show as well... but you would call someone else who likes it a retard. Thats the core thing that I don't get that makes me question why you ever liked the show to begin with. If enjoying it is such a bad thing and makes you a "narutard"... then why did you enjoy it?

Which is why I think that maybe you never liked it for reasons that were about the show at all.

PS
Would you really say that Shippuden moves slower than the 100+ filler season on the old show? The animation on a whole has gotten worse? You guys make it seem like on the old show, Naruto eating ramen was done as high quality as the Naruto vs Sasuke fight but on Shippuden its like Speed Racer.

@Mr. sickVisionz

Narutard can be both offensive and non-offensive IMO. Same applies with the term Otaku. Although they may have negative connotations, some would proudly claim themselves so, thus it becomes somewhat non-offensive.

And besides, some Naruto fans, or just any other fans in general, can go mindless sometimes that they act like retards. If you know you don't act like a retard, then don't get offended.

*sigh* I don't know how many times I said this, but don't criticize the series because of the anime. That's just a by-product.

Its 'over rated' not 'highly anticipated'.

I think it is because the start was good, and everyone who was just starting with manga read it as like.. their first manga ever. (Me)

So it has a special place within everyones minds.

I dislike it now though. Got really lame. >.<

(Although once I first started reading it, I kept on reading it like, 3 times a day, and I read all the 206 chapters that were out then.)
