What an entrance.. I was also wondering how he could enter the battle. Pretty perfect.. Falling smack dab in the middle from the sky and realizing mid-fall that he is going to live. I hadn't thought of that..

And Ace saw something falling.. Kinda hard to tell if it is Luffy at that distance really. But I'm sure if he uses his fruit to save everyone then Ace will be able to tell. Third gear giant ballon?

After just two chapters, Luffy finally makes his appearances, and boy, he sure knows how to make an entrance.

Really interesting to see how this goes from there.

A Giant Balloon makes sense, but in third gear his Gomu Gomu no Fuusen (Balloon) becomes Gomu Gomu no Hone Fuusen (Bone Balloon) and hard enough to deflect bullets, so he'd essentially turn into a huge meteor instead of a balloon.

Kuma could probably save them somehow with his fruit ability, considering what side he belongs to is still ambiguous (to me, at least). Crocodile could be able to save them with his sand abilities if he copies Gaara and does a floating sand thingy, though whether he'd actually want to is debatable. Honestly though, this is Oda we are talking about, so anything could happen.

There's plenty of options for them at this point to do some sort of mass flying transport. Jimbei can shoot the whole ship up with water and Iva can follow up with a wink to redirect the ship.

I think it might be Luffy's idea to do something but with the help of Jimbei and Iva. I doubt Luffy could've pulled off a gear 3rd to make a balloon while they're on the ocean...but a lot can happen since this is One Piece...
