If I could no longer read manga online, the only way I could read manga is if I purchase it, then I would give up my manga reading hobby.

This is for two reasons. First of all, no one and I seriously mean no one knows about my manga reading hobby, simply because if I was to make it public people would forever look at me with a WTF expression on their faces. If I were to purhcase manga then there is a risk of someone discovering it, which I can avoid easily by simply viewing online (I have never even downloaded manga online).

The second reason is that I'm too lazy and cheap to purchase it and also I'm not very dependent on manga for my entertainment. I was in the past, but now I just occasionly read it (I'm only following around five series atm) so giving up manga isn't a big loss.

No. I only read manga as long as I can get it for free. Buying a lot of manga will just take up space ,thats why I buy 90% of my games on Steam. And manga is not important enough for me to pay for.

Hell yes I would buy it! Say manga like uraboku or Nurarhiyon became up to date, or VK, then of course I'd buy it. I'd browse the manga section and then pick up more manga even.

I would buy it, eventually. If I read through most of it online I might hesitate on when to buy it. (I usually buy manga I don't read online)

No I wouldn't buy. There are only about 5 or 6 series that I like enough to buy and 2 of them aren't even in the US, and I doubt they ever would be. I might just go to the bookstore and read a few chapters there. But that's only if I had the time.

Of course. The biggest thing I hate about manga is when you can't buy the volumes to cherish forever. If the series I liked were published properly over here I would buy every volume.

I want Oyasumi Punpun licensed ;_; I need to stare at the beautiful pictures and re-read Punpun's tragic childhood. Viz are you listening?

(btw, for me "reasonable price" is like...8$ or lower for a small manga and 11$ or less for the omnibus.)

Not unless it's really cheap. But for those really long series (like Skip Beat..yes for ME it is too long) a big no. I'm a big gamer as well and I'd pick games over comics. I'd love to but I just CANT buy everything I like. I find ways to not spend so much.

I would definitely buy it if it is a series I like. The main reason I even read online is for the "up to date" release. It is always better to have your own copy. If it a series I like, I usually go crazy and buy all there merchandises.

It depends on a few matters.
First the cost, of course.
Second, availability. Getting manga where I live is a pain. Hardly any stores, online or otherwise, carry manga. And if they do, most of the time the collection is pretty limited, and importing stuff is too expensive to do myself.
Third, wether or not I'm still able to read it online for free. I want to be able to read a series first for free and then decide wether it's worth the money, what I do now. I do the same thing with movies and music, if I like something, I buy it. Stuff is just too expensive and I have too little to spend for me to just go out and buy something because the description sounded good.
So if scanlation were to completely disappear, I would lose my ability to check out a series first, which would keep me from buying manga, which would make me look for something else to spend my time on.

I totally would. It might not be right away, due to the fact that a lot of my paycheck gets eaten up with living expenses, but it would be a very high priority.

It'd be even better if they were priced decently. The old standard price of 10 dollars per volume was okay, but I'd buy much more if it were around 8 dollars. Unfortunately, the prices have been going in the opposite direction lately.

Yes, that's the major reason I don't buy manga (besides crap translations). You can't expect people to wait 3-5 years or more for a translation. If I had to, because there were no scanlations available, I wouldn't be reading that manga anymore, no matter how much I loved it.

That is of course for manga I've already read. I'd never buy any manga without having read it first, that's a complete waste of money.

Depending on how good the Manga is I'll buy it, if it's just an average Manga I'll wait til later to purchase it, if I really enjoyed it I'd try buy it first.
