Maybe you should spoiler that 😉.

I think the reason is that even though it did get more boring, and Near was annoying as hell, the series still remained complex and actually continued to bring up moral questions that other Shounen manga doesn't go as deeply in (Death Note loses in this aspect to a ton of Seinen series). Plus, that first part of the series was amazing. Just my thoughts though, I think Death Note drags on way too long if you're just reading it for the suspense and mind games.
