Almost any manga has this. But i'm looking for manga where surprises and shocks are the essence of story. Think Zipang - modern ship in WWII, anyone who sees it in action goes "WHAAAA? IMPOSSIBLE!", unfortunately it's not the main point of Zipang. Or any shounen romance - super-cute gf visits her idiot bf in school -> class stunned, happens only once per story. Ideally, there should be one awe inspiring moment per chapter with detailed portrayal of witness' reaction. By the way, bizarre manga like Franken Fran is not what i'm looking for.

Bonus points if it's NOT comedy or martial arts manga.

Sun-Ken Rock is the only manga on my mind now since I just caught up with it. You can decide whether it fits or not. I like this topic though.

aiki has a lot of surprising scenes.... some of which are more blank horrified expressions than normal surprised ones but it may be what you're looking for.
ai kora there is no one on earth who wouldn't be surprised with almost everything the lead does, plus it's downright hilarious.
maniac road ok its not a perfect example but the main char frequently surprises people with his ideas and inspirational abilities, great and entertaining story.
And I just noticed the non comedy so ill put in gantz some people crack jokes once in awhile so idk if it earned a comedy tag, but nothing about the story is humorous... anyway the main and a few other chars completely blow the minds of quite a few people somewhat regularly.

I could probably provide a few more, but tbh I don't wanna bother thinking. So if there aren't many lksted by tomorrow ill come back and add more.

Try Code Geass and/or Kyou Kara Ore Kawa, they're both very fun and have a lot of inspiring moments. I think its what you are looking for, because, especially in Code Geass, you just keep being shocked on how things turn !
Code Geass having more reflexion and Kyou Kara Ore Kawa being more the impulsive type.
The good thing is that booth are completed so you can read them completely with no wait for each chapter ^^.

Sadly this is true, black butler may work tho... frequent surprises about the kid being a kid, and about the epic butler... kinda twisted storyline, and a slight romance building last I checked. May work for you but idk how well. I wish I could think about something more surprise instead of just amazed... feeling is kinda different x.x

For me, the thing which fits the most is Steins;Gate. But I didn't read the manga and I don't know if it has the same amount of awe of the anime.
