plot... ill read anything, even if the art is junk, if the plot is good

e.g. Usagi Drop

Usagi Drop's art is fine. o.O;
Or is it that my standards went down?

Rather than it not being good, I would say it's...simple.
But I personally like the art. o-o

I go for plot. Art is always a plus—I mean, I'm not complaining if a series has amazing plot and amazing plot, but there's no way I'll keep reading a series that's not compelling just to see the art. For instance, Midorikawa Yuki writes some of the most interesting, touching, and well-developed stories I've ever read, but her art is quite sketchy.

To be honest, though... my real answer would be neither.

The importance of interesting, original, and well-developed characters far surpasses that of art and even plot for me. A series without good art may be fabulous, and a series without a particularly good plot may be driven forward by something more beautiful, but the lack of decent characters ruins a story even if the art is top-notch and the plot is intricate and tightly wound. The characters are what make readers care about whatever they're reading. Without emotional investment in a story, it's just like watching a string of events roll by.

I wouldn't say Usagi Drop's art is junk at all. It has no problem of presentation and inconsistency, and has a style of its own. It's far better than a lot of generic shoujo and shounen out there.

well i personally dont think its junk either but im just going off of what ive heard the majority say

I really don't care if the art is good or bad, it's cool when the art is amazing, but only the plot (or the character devellopment and feelings) can make me say if a manga is good or not.

Ideally, I'd like my reading to be balanced. It must have an entertaining plot and art that goes well with it. However I've been guilty picking up some books with great art but substandard fluffy plots, and will never touch manga deemed "excellent" plot wise by most but has art that makes me cringe.

Plot. I don't care how much the art sucks as long as the plot is good.

I totally agree.

Yeah, I totally agree with this. Helter Skelter had pretty bad art in my opinion, especially for a manga that is about a supermodel. But the story was just so powerful and different I read it anyways, and by the end I was totally in love with the art. It just fit the story so well.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that plot adds to the art, so if the plot is good my opinion of the art goes up. But if the art is good and the plot is bad, I just can't finish the series and I start to think the art is bad, too..

I'd like to say I read manga for the plot but honestly when I choose between the two art always wins. A manga with the most horrible, cliched plot will sucker me in with beautiful art. I don't think art can carry a series alone, the plot needs to interest me eventually and this is probably why I'm not a smut person. So I'll look at a series just for the art but it had better become entertaining or I'm dropping it.

i Would say plot...but thats not how i choose a manga to read.
If i can't stand the art i move on.Same thing with the plot.

It ends on a 50/50 for me however the art can be its own unique taste then thats fine.
If i'm reading crapy drawings with crapy presentations with crapy layouts, i just don't feel comfortable to even read it, I would even wounder why i'm reading a "manga" instead of a good novel.

I read manga because i like being given the visual atmosphere of things, why read something that is void to that. Question is, Why make it a manga if you don't consider the art much?

I believe in letting people do as they wish, as do I myself. Sometimes, of course, what I wish to do is kill them and they do not wish to die. This gives life interest.

Love Roma and Nodame Cantabile don't have the best art but they're pretty good. I think that when judging whether a series is good or not depends greatly on plot, I mean art too but it shouldn't be that big of a determining factor like the plot.
