Quote from StarlightDreams

sqrt(x^2+1)dy/dx = x/y such that y(0) = 14

I got y = sqrt(2(x^2 + 1)^(1/2) + 194)

^^

H/o, I'll scan my work for you. Typing it all out is a pain.

EDIT: Oops, change 97/2 to 194.
Story645 is right, just move your variables and integrate. Unless you're using some other method of finding the particular solution~ o-o

THANK YOU!! I made some stupid mistakes here and there....

@Box: I am fully aware of that site, but I couldn't do it for this type of problem. For the other ones, I trust my life in wolfram though.

Yeah I made one too, I don't know why I divided by two instead of multiplying...it's 2AM. XD

Quote from leloMew

Quote from story645
m = (8.7x10^(11)).(131) / (6.022x10^(23)) = 1.9x10^(-10)kg

Redo the calculation as your numbers do work out to 1.9*10^-13. I think you just typed something in wrong.

x10^(11) x10^(2) ÷10^(23) = 10^(-10).

I plugged your numbers into a calculator (well actually the python shell) and got 1.9*10^-13.
here, pure c&p:

((8.710**11).131)/(6.022*10**23)
1.89256061109266e-13

so I'll reiterate that the calculation works out fine.

You've also got your scientific notation wrong as it's (10^1110^-1)/10^23 which is 11-1-23 = -13
.131 is 1.31
10^-1 .
I understand what you did now and you would have been correct.

Sorry it's my fault - I've gotten used to seeing this . as multiply. I meant x131 not 0.131, so it is 1.31x10^(2).

Thanks for all your help 🙂

Okay, so I just started taking a statistics class and we started learning about contingency tables, stem and leaf displays, and histograms.

I have this set of data, there are 15 persons that were included in it, 7 females, 8 males, and it has each of their weight and Systolic Blood Pressure and I'm supposed to make a contingency table of this data...
But I'm not really sure what to put as the categories? What categorical variables should I use to show the distribution? I'm not sure at all, my teacher didn't clarify anything for me. @_@ Do I need categorical variables that help show a correlation between weight and Systolic BP? Some people in my class were just using weight and Systolic BP as the variables but I think that's wrong since a contingency table is supposed to show distribution and they're just making a data table...

So...help please? :'D

EDIT: I got help, so no longer needed. xD Thanks.

Economics Project

You don't have to read this but this is just some background info.
You have crashed on a deserted island with 52 other survivors. You are surrounded by water and there is a fresh water river/stream running through the center of the island with fish. There are wild berry bushes, banana and coconut trees in abundance around the island. There is a supply of wild boars, monkeys, and different species of birds on this island. You can salvage material form the plane but you must say how you got these materials(ex: metal. how did you remove it from the plane). Your economy must be well established and growing within 20 years or you fail and die.

now here's what i need help with
the things that i have to use to develop my economy are land, labor, capital, and technology. what are some things i can make using the resources i'm given? a few examples are spears, baskets, and jelly. oh and i do have things like rocks, wood, honey, and stuff like that.

so can anyone help? >.<

Make the men hunters and womans gatherers (that's allocative efficiency) Labor

At the start you should hunt.
After that (a few years) you should create farm's (banana farm etc) Use of land

Capital would mean non human things increasing output of humans think plows, fishboats/nets etc

Technology you might think about copper, if you throw stones with copper in them in the fire it's hot enough to melt, so copper knives, axes, (metal is going to be hard to use)
Personaly I would add a doctor herbalist person and name that as technology but I have no idea if that counts

You might think about pottery also.
I believe technology should be seen as the insight in how to make stuff, and capital as the stuff that are created

Economy growing means that productivity of the humans increases.
Best solution in this case is a socialist state.
and have many people specialize (fishermen, woodcutter, hunter, farmer, miner, carpenter, doctor/herbalist) this means they become better in their jobs an giving them an allocative advantage above the others.

Hey guys!

I will ask this question here because I "think" that manga readers are generally people who think outside of the box and thats exactly what I need.
I was given this assignment that says that we need to find a new communicating technology that no one ever thought of before and if it was googled it wouldn't be found. Now I've been thinking about it for over a month and I couldn't find a thing! 😕 and its getting frustrating >:-(

PLEASE help!
with just anything even if it will just get me thinking

any contributions are really really appreciated.

THANKS!

Rather than trying for some major breakthrough like the telephone or the internet, create a new twist on something simple, like a new language or a new secret code. If you make something up, hopefully you will be the first to think of it.

A catapult for launching hard drives. If you can sustain a rate of a 1 TB HDD fired every 5 seconds, you will achieve the bandwidth of approx. 1.6 Tbits/sec, which is much faster than even OC-256. Of course, there will be a significant latency in your network while your HDDs are loaded with data.

I don't really understand the question... Find a 'new'? communication technology that 'no one' ever thought of before?

Firstly pretty much every (technological) development is 'something no one ever though of before', or else someone else would have invented it already (quite likely someone already did but forgot about it or it disappeared in history).
If you mean that it must not have been envisioned before, that would be something quite hard to prove. Yesterdays fiction is tomorrows history, who is to say some obscure French comic artist didn't already write about it.
If you meant something revolutionary, this would also be quite hard to support and would require much research.
Some would say that the internet introduced a radical change to how we communicate... But it's not something that was invented in a single day, you could even say it's still under development, and just what is the internet? (besides quite complex and it encompasses more than you'd think)...

P.S.
It also depends on what you define 'communication technology' as. Most likely a platform or protocol which which one or more people can send messages to each other. I.e. simply talking, letters, forum, even just showing someone an image). Don't forget that 'technological' doesn't mean it has to be electric/digital, for electricity is just another technology.
.. To be honest, I actually can't think of anything that is not a form of communication one way or another (with the right arguments). So it's not that you can't find anything, it's that you can't choose one 😛

Then, if you think about it, the very fact of asking people online and receiving an answer from one of us creates a form of communication that someone has thought of and therefore can be googled. So, you can never ask someone about a new unknown tech; you have to figure it out yourself.

Also, "you could not find a thing" means that you have found something that has not been thought of... therefore, you have your answer already.

make a variation on message in a bottle or baloonmail.

For instance a thing which is a container that can withstand enormous amounts of pressure an heat. than put a electronic unit in it that can send where it's position is. and put it in magma streams to discover the flows of magma. can be used for scientific studies of magma currents

And the google thing means you have to rewrite the idea in your own words. doubt that you would find it on google then. teachers are human too and have more things to do than checking things on the internet. so it will prolly be a real simple scan.

Or use the same idea to see how glaciers grow or shrink

Communicating means exchange of information, right?
Normally it's your consciousness using certain means (in most cases your body) to relay your thoughts.
Sometimes it'd be your subconsciousness (dreams and the like) or reflexes (body meets hot plate - doesn't need your brains to back away)
It's the same the other way around: environment (body) or subconsciousness would relay information to your consciousness.
Anything else is just a chain of these events (phones for example relay the information your body got from your consciousness to something else - like another body, which would relay the information from your consciousness to the other person's consciousness)
You could troll your teacher by asking him if he can think of something that cant be explained that way (and therefore already been thought of) - depending on how well you get along with him, everything between an A and F is possible, good luck.
