Is somebody messing around? Is this a joke? There is a show trying to find the greatest otaku? Really?? I am at the same time speechless and laughing XD
When these people go to the conventions and find fat guys dressed up as girls, and people walking around the convention dressed as Jesus (yes, I actually saw somebody who did this) I will laugh at the expressions on their face.
wow...even Jesus...that's going pretty far there. I am anticipating who will be the "greatest otaku in America," would be hilarious if the person is crazed enough to marry anime characters. (kinda like that guy who married a pillow O_O)

What I wanna know is how is Tokyopop gonna find this otaku WHEN OTAKU DON'T LEAVE THEIR HOUSES.
I think you've got otaku mixed up with hikikomori 🤣
Guess I should reword that seeing how some otaku are also hikikomori...
Yes, only some, but not all.
I mean, what kind of otaku DOESN'T go to cons?

I'm getting the feeling that it might become a little harder to admit I like anime to normal people.

Liking something is not that big of a deal. Its just something to watch/read in passing. Its when people get all into it and start putting posters up/buying cards/ sitting in there room and only watching/reading the stuff thats when it starts weir-ding people out. But as long as your outside enough and spend time with other people regularly then its not such a big deal.
Remember what we see as normal is what we see as reality. And Reality is relative to the individuals perspective of the world around him/her. When people look at you they look at the whole package and not just the individual traits. If you have enough good points that they like about you then they look past the bad ones or the ones they see as "weird".

My hate for Tokyopop has reached an all-time new level.
If I ever see Stuart Levy, I am going to kick him so hard in the nether regions it will rupture his ballsack.

I cant wait until Japan gets wind of this, I hope we get some good reactions.
That's really the only reason this is funny, it really just makes me...sad.

Either that's sarcasm or you don't know how bad so many of the people that go to cons can be.

I'm thinking the same. XD
This is really quite hilarious. I just hope the show isn't full of those ones that are an embarrassment to the manga/anime community. Anyone remember the "Otaku" that auditioned on American Idol? I was already face palming myself when she came on, and that was just ONE.

there was an otaku that went to american idol? really? omg...where can i see that?
should i feel bad that i haven't been to any conventions eventhough i love manga? i'm not really a hikikomori 😛 i guess i love skating too much when i'm outside to bother to go to a con 🙂
thing is that this is not a good idea...this will not be a good spotlight on tv for manga...what the hell is tokyopop thinking?....if they find such a guy/gal he/she will be so creepy that any possible new manga readers will be scared away or further ensure perceptions of otaku being weird or childish who like silly cute non-sensical things or something like that (i don't really know what guys who like comic books think of otaku but i'm sure it's something completely misinformed along these lines)

Thankfully, most people don't know about my rather sizable collection of manga sitting on my shelf. I'm aware that I'm a weeaboo, but I certainly don't need to parade it to my friends who really could care less...I just cannot fathom how people can humiliate themselves in front of other people with their...pathetic inept behavior.
I mean, do they know that it makes even weeaboos such as myself cringe with embarrassment? And the really sad thing is, a lot of the people that claim to be 'otaku' aren't doing it to get a rise out of the other fans of animu/mangos. How can anyone want to show off such an embarrassing part of themselves to the public?
