For a manga with its length, One Piece has done a pretty good job about staying relatively fresh.. I going to admit the Shichibukai fight with Moria wasn't the best but even then it still had it points ( Zoro taken on Luffy's pain, etc..). One Piece was set up to be a huge universe so there are many directions that he could still go. The New World should be interesting to see how it pans out with everything.

That guy was the captain.

Somehow I don't get tired of One Piece either, there has been parts were it was kind of weak, but not disappointing like other shounen manga.

yeh this manga does not get old since there is a new environment every arc and there are new characters that are being added to the crew and so on, unlike inuyasha where they had the same villan over and over again one piece gives you some thing new every arc

The fight with Moria sort of pissed me off, it was lackluster IMO compared to the fight with Rob Lucci (best one so far, Me thinks). But it has started to pick up again, that's the whole magic about this manga, the way it surprises you and manages to introduce amazing new characters 500+ chapters on to the story. Jinbe better be a damn awesome shichibukai, though.

you kno what honestly i think one piece is on the brink of ending...

Oda is currently exposing alot of secrets like why the hell ace's last name was portgas...or how does white beard fight...he has most of the one piece big shots fighting ryte now...the only possible arch that could top this one ryte now is somthing that has dragon and thats only if dragon doesn't get involved ryte now.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
one i read this chapter and saw luffy standing next to white beard(an event that took over 500 chapters) thats pretty much a give away that Oda is wrapping up one piece but doing it the oda way which we all know means there won't b a dam person who won't be satisfied ^_^

One Piece doesn't disappoint me. Like tsuto, there are certain arcs where I thought the quality of the story was weak (Every arc before the Arlong Arc, the Drum Island arc, the Davy Back Fight arc, the Thriller Bark arc), but it's never truly disappointing. It's just that Oda's style of storytelling is so good, that when he makes an arc that's not that good, it's on par with an average mangaka's.

And I highly doubt that One Piece is going to end soon, because there are TONS of subplots and other info that hasn't been revealed yet.

It's not ending any time soon, even though you see these characters fight luffy isn't fighting THEM. He will probably have to if he wants to be pirate king, and he still has to get his crew back. As a side note on that, the hints oda gives us of were every one is they are going to come back stronger than ever!!

Ok, I doubt its ending any time soon. Why? Because to become the Pirate King you have to make it to the end of the Grand Line. They're only halfway there, and that alone took 500+ chapters. Now that they're going to the New World it'll probably be even more intense. And no. One Piece has not become tedious, it won't become tedious.

hmm, it's probably half way through One Piece. (right now is chapter 557)
I don't find it's boring or tedious or repeat, but I usually wait for the arc complete to read it.
It will be a long long way ... years from now on till one piece complete - but at least it doesn't make you feel like you aren't processing anything from the manga (unlike Conan for example lol)

I'm pretty sure I read something around chapter 500 where Oda stated that OP was about halfway finished...

For 12 years One Piece has been going on - longer then most other Mangas - I havent been reading since 12 years ago haha but I for one dont think it will ever get tedious. Firstly the world is just sooo big - so many characters each uniquely defined and well developed.

It's has everything you could ever want from a story.

If I had to take an educated guess I'd say we're about just pass the halfway mark with One Piece so if it goes on for another 10 years I'll be really happy. biggrin

One Piece is a long running manga and if you compare One Piece with other long running manga you will noticed One Piece is still going on strong up until now. There are so many subplot and foreshadowing plot going on in this manga. What makes it amazing is Oda, unlike any other mangaka (that seems to forgot what they have introduced in their story) manage to develops and revealed all the mystery to us at some point in the story. He didn't used any plot device or Deus Ex Machina just to explained things like any other mangaka did.

I mean try to evaluate what happened within the past 300 chapters of One Piece and compare it to say Bleach 300 chapters. There are more plot, story and character development happened in OP compare to Bleach (that mainly about versus fight, revealed Bankai, transformation etc). I already get to that phase 10 years ago when reading Dragon Ball manga, I don't really need that stuff anymore bigrazz The storyline is what interest me to keep reading a manga and so far, Oda hasn't disappoint me yet with his storytelling. biggrin

I think what Oda meant when he said the story is halfway done representing the crew has reached Red Line (end of Grand Line) before entering the New World. Especially since the current story arc hinted us that this war will set up a new era. It's a transition of SH journey from Grand Line to the New World in finding One Piece.

That pretty much tell us how big OP universe is. It doesn't revolve around the same place and setting. It doesn't have insanely strong main protagonist that keeps beating one bad guy after another. The main protagonist are small in comparison to the big name of other New World pirates, Yonkou, Shichibukai the World Government, and even other veteran pirates in OP.

With other manga you have the focused revolved around main protagonist keeps getting stronger, and for some strange reason they always draw attention of new enemies and have to fight them etc etc. With OP, the Straw Hat are facing their opponent because they are going on an adventure to reach to their goal. The story is moving forward and not just fight, end, back to normal, repeat with another bad guys. There are a lot more story in OP making it not your average, typical fighting Shounen manga. Just visit OP forum and there are plenty of things to discuss and talk about other than speculating "What do you think <insert character> power will be?" "Do you think <insert character> will end up with <insert character>?" "Who do you think is stronger in <insert series>?". biggrin

The Straw Hat are facing lots of obstacle through their journey to get to the destination. That doesn't seems pointless and endless to me. They don't have a final boss / villain to beat unlike a lot of other manga. One Piece does have a conclusion. Even Oda himself states he already have the ending planned out, he's working his way there because he didn't expect OP to be popular (he said he only plan his series to last for at least 5 years). For now, let's us enjoy the adventure of SH crew. cool

Jump has the editorial policy just so you know. It states that any popular manga must remains uninterrupted. At least Oda is clever enough to manipulate the system by giving us a lot of foreshadowing, sub plot, mystery (which he will revealed later), and using the theme of adventure (searching for OP) to make his story long running compare to other Shounen that falls victim to that story policy (repeats plot, make lots of mindless fight, dragged plot/fight). wink
