not a serious question or poll, just curious what people make of manga...
i just wonder how manga effects peoples life, or if its more then an entertainment to people...

well to me, its a childhood thing...

i think its like a drug to me, lol... manga gets my mind twisted if i overdose on it... 😲

This isn't maybe what you meant in the poll, but reading manga, Fruits Basket in particular, helped me over a difficult time. It gave me an excuse to cry and a reason to laugh, both of which I needed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Greg Ayres at a convention last year, and when I told him how much I loved Saiyuki, he told me about about someone who was going through a bad time, and every day would come home and detox with an episode of Saiyuki. This story so mirrored what I had gone through that to this day I think he has ESP.

Tricky question, i guess so.
Maybe because i like to read psychological and slice of life manga.
I've read some pretty interesting things that sure made me reflect.

i think that manga helps me perceive how i see life(s)...
and understand others feeling.
but anything other than that, i think it's ruined my life... my mind, my social life, and budget 😀 😀

Some slice-of-life/seinen manga can be very thought-out and actually tought me quite some things about the perception of life.
Wouldn't work without having a general inclination to think about life and motivation though.

My whole life was change by Manga.
It's brought me out of depression when I was younger and led me to my best friends of all time.
It also led me to my career path.

Manga gives me amazing ideas and has helped me visualize things better. I want to be a director so I need to be able to see these stories in my head before hand. Not to mention I actually hate watching movies so it really makes up for it.

I have absolutely no idea where I would be if it weren't for manga. 😕

Some serious seinen about life gave my some life experience as a novel. Though I must admit that most of those manga I have read isn't helpful at all.

i think it has definately helped me out, although i was introduced to the anime first, manga later. Elfen Lied introduced me to Mayu. yes, yes, i know she's a fictional character, but she was the first "person" who showed me that a person could still be strong, and happy after experiencing horror. she was the first "person" who helped me see i was not alone. i know its fiction, but it helped me find my courage.

a lot of manga i read are for entertainment only, but some make me think, and wonder. some just make me smile or laugh. what can i say? i love all versions of stories, books, tales, and manga! 🙂

Not really...I was a bookworm before I started to read manga, and well, my mom yelled at me for reading books, so it didn't get any better with manga when I started hogging the computer even longer than I used to. (:

Personally? I don't think so. I just think I got more crazy ideas in my head than before.

I'm pretty sure I got more depressed after reading so many books. -sigh-

Oh well...off to read more manga
