Has manga ever helped me?

Hell yeah, I get plenty of recipe ideas from What Did You Eat Yesterday? and occasionally (less often because this is more restaurant food than home food) from A Delicious Relationship. YAY FOR COOKING MANGA!

It depends...
Some mangas lift my mood when i'm sad or confused. Some even inspire me in real relationships.
Yoshinaga Fumi, Yazawa Ai, Watanabe Taeko, etc... are such good examples for mangakas who can make differences when creating mangas, make them more than just entertainment.

Fond childhood memories!
I've met people because of our mutual interest in manga.
It cheers me up when I am blue, and gives me a form of escape when I'm going through a really rough patch with my health.

But it hasn't changed my philosophy on life, or anything like that.

A lot of times.

The first one was how I viewed life. Reading manga helped me think of it in a different, but positive and hopeful way.

The second one was my goal towards losing weight. I just recently read Cousin and fell in love.

There are a bunch of people who see manga as an immature read, but I think it provides us with more than enough insight on the things that are really important. 😀

Has it helped? Hell, yes! Manga is my #1 way to destress, and the way my personal life has been going lately, I need a lot of help destressing. Other than that, probably not. But, hey, destresser is a HUGE one.

I learned how to draw anime-style people from manga and manga plots do have some creative tropes that I use in free write essays.

manga has helped me to meet new people who later became good friends. Whenever I'm in a depressed mood I would read manga to cheer me up...and often times I think it taught me of life and it's ways.

Quote from scarletrhodelia

This isn't maybe what you meant in the poll, but reading manga, Fruits Basket in particular, helped me over a difficult time. It gave me an excuse to cry and a reason to laugh, both of which I needed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Greg Ayres at a convention last year, and when I told him how much I loved Saiyuki, he told me about about someone who was going through a bad time, and every day would come home and detox with an episode of Saiyuki. This story so mirrored what I had gone through that to this day I think he has ESP.

Fruits Basket did that to me to while I was going through some bad times in school, I still read it whenever I'm in a certain mood and need to escape from reality for quite a while

Definitely! What a great way to learn lessons in life! I have plenty stressful days in a year, so manga is a good teacher to me. Each manga teaches me different things, I learn something new everyday 🙂

Yeah I agree with the de-stressing.

Lets me escape reality, and make me laugh. I usually tend to go for the comedy type when I'm upset and stressed out. It helps a lot.

Other than that though, there's not really anything else.

All of my closest friends read manga, and some of them I might've not have become friends with without manga. Also, it has helped me be less shy since I started an anime club at my school. Thats always fun! I 😀

Well, yes I guess. I mean, it gives me a picture of what insane things could happen in our lives. Especially in relationships with other people, but not just romantically. It makes you realize that fiction is strange, but real life can be stranger that it sometimes.

Absolutely no effect. Only for entertainment.

Getting mixed up with fiction is never good.
