i have received a notice from my cablevision, that i was being in suspect of plagerism.... which was dark knight : batman..... ...

i have a few friends who had received the same notice....

i always thought, dont these people are aware like half their costomers nowadays use online services for mostly plagerism and like 5% using for hacks.... isnt the best way to handle this matter, is by just sending a notice to the provider or the seeders, or just send the distributor,, not the peers... why am i guilty, though i admit i did download a big file that was a distributed by a large budget producers, but blame the dealer not the buyers in drug dealer terms....

i mean come on, everyone here in this site for example download illegal materials, and they're aware of it... i say its just a matter of a bad lottery... though wen i say illegal, the licensed ones that people manage to find...

i know a case where this girl got sued for downloading some music by limewire or kazaa i think... her argument was simply everyone does it too, which i dont think is a bad argument or point but rather a bad way to testify...

i say the problem here is that, everyone in the cyber world is encouraged by their peers by their actions and the fact the laws for these downloading policies is actually not stable and coorinated enough as the real world nowadays, since internets been around for only 10 years or so??

Wait so your internet provider is SPYING on you?

That's creepy.

How do they know? Isn't that against some sort of private policy?

So what's gonna happen...Are they gonna take action?

Could you please specify who it is that is "suspecting" you?

Cablevision or another body? .

That's just bad luck on your part.
And it should be really easy to catch people downloading illegal material. The police can just track any seed and the leechers would be listed right there. They just don't do anything about it because so many people do it. They can't possibly get to everyone. That's why, once in a while, they do take action, just to set an example.

Here's the thing: regardless of whether or not what other people did was worse, you still technically broke the law. I'm sure virtually everyone here does with this, but it's still illegal, and if you're caught you're caught, you shouldn't blame other people, it's an action you willing took yourself. You should face any consequences that occur as a result, it's a choice you made yourself, you never have to succumb to peer pressure or anything of the sort.

Yes, internet culture has developed in a manner that advocates piracy, but there are still people who know about it, and willingly ignore it for their own principle's sake. I'm not saying I do, and I'm not saying that everyone should, my point is just that you should take responsibility and recognize that you're still doing something that's wrong, legally speaking.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with Crenshinibon. I think most of the people know that they catch people for downloading copyrighted stuff, so you are aware of the risk when you do that. Just thinking "They all do the same, it's unlikely they will catch just me" is like playing a lottery, sometimes you can win 🤣

I gotta agree with you there.

It's natural to say "Why me? Why not them?"

Life's unfair and such. Some people win the lottery while most others don't.

Here's a story: I was ding dong ditching with my friends one night. Long story short, I rang this one doorbell, but these guys came out and chased me and beat me up. My friends didn't get caught even though we were all equally wrong. Anyway it's a lesson learned! Sometimes you gotta learn the hard way, sometimes you get the privilege of watching others screw up and you learn from their mistakes.

Anyway, I'm sorry that happened, and good luck to you.

Good luck to you.

Personally, i download things knowing that i can be arrested/sued for it, and it really doesn't bother me, because the only things i really download are the ones i AM willing to go through that for.

I don't download a lot of stuff, so it doesn't
matter that much. I don't live in the US so
the espionage culture isn't that well
spread here.

Wouldn't it be called piracy instead of plagerism?

Mmmm over here in Italy we've had a case of two people being fined a great deal of money because they were caught having downloaded gygas and gygas of movies off emule (we're talking thousands of dvd's worth of material here), and it was a huge scandal, people panicking everywhere they were gonna get caught and stuff like that.

Then a law came out saying that if you download off a peer-to-peer (without making any money off it), it's fine.

Presently? No idea how the situation is. I just download my stuff without bothering anyone... as does my best friend, who is the son of a general of the Carabinieri (Italian police force, let's call it). So long as HE can do it, why shouldn't I?

First, i don't see how cablevision can convict you of something that you did over the computer. Secondly, I'm pretty sure that cablevision doesn't even have the rights to air The Dark Knight yet. And how would it be plagerism? Your not the one who made it, it would be piracy...

Your story just doesn't add up, either your friends are joking with you, or you have a rat on your hands.

What you need to do is to follow up on validity of this notice. Did it come in the mail with cablevisions seal on the envelope and the paper? If it came from an email, call cablevision and find out.

i meant piracy ( sorry, not plagerism, i type fast so i make typos )

well the way some guys replied, im not saying " why not them, not me", im just asking if there were others or you that have experienced the same thing? no need for wise cracks.....

secondly.. yes i did receive the letter directly from cablevision, as a warning i believe, but the people over there the company has the right to take any action based on if i continue to P2P share with illegal usage of protocols such a bittorent, IRC, and such... cable as no choice but to stop the services and disconnect me from their connection.... im pretty sure its not big deal for now as long as i dont download and get caught again..

and question was " does cable have the right to spying my IP address? " somebody asked.... answer is "yes", not like its like they can get a personal gain from gaining knowledge of "personal visits or what people do online",, since people are aware most people download illegally online.... kind of how cops have rights to catch pedophiles and hackers, by tracking their IP Address, which many cases were broadcasted of catching criminals this way....

so basically these people cant keep track of millions of people that are active all the time, so yea, its matter of an unlucky pick of lottery.... though i say some downloads are baited by companies, since the letter i got had the exact information of what i downloaded and the file's name and the protocol i used... since the complaint came from the company itself to the cable company than to me.... so yea, more of files were tracked, since they gave them the evidence including my IP ADDRESS and the FILE i downloaded along with the DATE....

theres youre answer,, in case in the future, most of you, want to avoid getting caught.... i strongly advice against downloading from "torrentbox", theres where i got my stuff from, where u get DVD quality material, which i think most of them are being tracked.... i mean i know every month a site gets banned for piracy materials.... like this site where you can watch online, like "sidereel",, matter of time before that gets banned.... thank god mangas are always safe to download, since most of them are not licensed, and this site for example are just link providers, so this site is not responsible either...
