And that's why everything I watch/read are viewed online if I can help it. xD
Me too, I prefer to watch online and only download very very rarely and if I do I use peerblocker to try and keep from being tracked if possible.

I've gotten 7 DMCA complaints to date. The worst that happened so far is that they got my (free) hosting account shut down.

First, i don't see how cablevision can convict you of something that you did over the computer. Secondly, I'm pretty sure that cablevision doesn't even have the rights to air The Dark Knight yet. And how would it be plagerism? Your not the one who made it, it would be piracy...
Your story just doesn't add up, either your friends are joking with you, or you have a rat on your hands.
What you need to do is to follow up on validity of this notice. Did it come in the mail with cablevisions seal on the envelope and the paper? If it came from an email, call cablevision and find out.
i meant piracy ( sorry, not plagerism, i type fast so i make typos )
well the way some guys replied, im not saying " why not them, not me", im just asking if there were others or you that have experienced the same thing? no need for wise cracks.....
secondly.. yes i did receive the letter directly from cablevision, as a warning i believe, but the people over there the company has the right to take any action based on if i continue to P2P share with illegal usage of protocols such a bittorent, IRC, and such... cable as no choice but to stop the services and disconnect me from their connection.... im pretty sure its not big deal for now as long as i dont download and get caught again..
and question was " does cable have the right to spying my IP address? " somebody asked.... answer is "yes", not like its like they can get a personal gain from gaining knowledge of "personal visits or what people do online",, since people are aware most people download illegally online.... kind of how cops have rights to catch pedophiles and hackers, by tracking their IP Address, which many cases were broadcasted of catching criminals this way....
so basically these people cant keep track of millions of people that are active all the time, so yea, its matter of an unlucky pick of lottery.... though i say some downloads are baited by companies, since the letter i got had the exact information of what i downloaded and the file's name and the protocol i used... since the complaint came from the company itself to the cable company than to me.... so yea, more of files were tracked, since they gave them the evidence including my IP ADDRESS and the FILE i downloaded along with the DATE....
theres youre answer,, in case in the future, most of you, want to avoid getting caught.... i strongly advice against downloading from "torrentbox", theres where i got my stuff from, where u get DVD quality material, which i think most of them are being tracked.... i mean i know every month a site gets banned for piracy materials.... like this site where you can watch online, like "sidereel",, matter of time before that gets banned.... thank god mangas are always safe to download, since most of them are not licensed, and this site for example are just link providers, so this site is not responsible either...
unless they were in some way influenced by the media companies in Hollywood. I'm not a big one on conspiracy theories ,but i still think that pressure from American companies forced the Swiss police to try to shut down Pirate Bay.

The internet is obviously goign to spread any and all kinda of info. If the govrnment really wants to protect copy rights they should focus on product protection a hell of alot more then randomly prosecuting people random people. Sure theres gonna be a way to crack and read cd's/dvd's/blueray's no matter how much protection you put on it. Piracy isn't armed robbery. You don't need special equipment and you don't need to be a genious. All you need is a computer, the ability to read, and internet.I blame service providers lol. People don't upgrade to Cable T1 and FW just so that thier myspace pages go faster. They do it for movies....programs...and private servers. 😃 😃 😃

"You just bleed there and think about what you've done!"
lol all this fuss for dling THE DARK KNIGHT... i mean "wth? The Dark Knight?" at least you shouldve been caught for a better film 🤣
Anyway there's no way they can feely tap in your ip to see what are you downloading. Its like tapping in phone lines to investigate: if it is NOT a suspect (because of FACTS he caused before), you cant just tap randomly on people. Its called privacy act.
I mean, if you didnt do anything wrong before (to get noticed by your company in some way or another), you shouldnt be "suspected" in any way, therefore there isnt any right for them to monitor your connection without violating the privacy act (shortly: "my business is my business" 😉 😉
And pls dont compare it to intercepting pedos on the loose, also because they are intercepted AFTER they are caught doing something against the law, not before.
If not, any one of us can be suspected to be a mmm killer? So we should ALL be constantly monitored by fbi (paragon by absurd)

as far as i know... i read that THE WAY they even figure out that youre downloading illegally in the first place is ILLEGAL ITSELF, and uses ILLEGAL PROCEDURES...
i have alot of friends who'v got the same notice, but in case i ignore the warning and go download spree... and get sued i can still countue-sue for ignoring the 4th amendment right?
i know im not ganna get sued, but what if im asking, just curious about the law of what would happen in these extreme cases
