I thought that listing some sites that rate games might be useful. Here are the ones I know of, with help from Kaioh. Also tell what sites you use to find out the latest news about the game industry.

http://www.gamerankings.com/
http://www.joystiq.com/
http://www.gameinformer.com/
http://www.famitsu.com/
http://www.gamespot.com/
http://www.gametrailers.com/
http://www.gamefaqs.com/
http://www.gamefly.com/
http://www.gametap.com/
http://www.ign.com/
http://www.1up.com/
http://www.gamespy.com/

Joystiq: They don't rate games but their sister sites, PSPFanboy, DSFanboy, Xbox360Fanboy, etc. do.

GameRankings: Most people use Metacritic now as their reviews aggregate.

GameFAQs: Most of their reviews are crap and are un-"professional".

Personally, and with respect to the Kotaku guys, I find Joystiq to be a much better gaming news website.

Most the websites I use have been posted. Although I feel Gamefaqs is more FAQs, instead of game reviews. I've been a bit disappointed with the website ever since the corporate buyout by CNET in '03.

It pisses me off that the guy who created the site sold it for over 2 million dollers, when all the content posted (The FAQS) are user created and user submitted, yet no users ever saw a single doller for their work.

personally I prefer GameFAQs, otherwise IGN and gametrailers. Although their are pros and cons to each so you should just use them all; eventually you will find the one you like.

Also to contribute to this thread I will add 2:

That's just how it goes. MetaCritic and GameRankings don't review games themselves but they make a whole lot of money just being a reviews aggregate.

I didn't know that.. that really is messed up! I don't think I wanna use it anymore now.. 😐

For the most part, I usually you ign.com.. but I've used a few others as well that are listed.

Don't let it get to you. None of the FAQ makers stopped. The guy needed money to keep the site running and it's not like he didn't work hard enough for the money. IGN also uses guides they get from readers and they make so much more money than 99% of all other gaming websites. Are you not going to use IGN now?

I don't really use game ranking sites, but the only ones that I got to on that list are gamefaqs.com and ign.com

I always found gamespot.com to be the most reliable and useful, since they give you reviews from other video game reviewers (ign.com, eleectronic gaming monthly, game informer, etc.) as well as the opinions of those who actually played the game (or claiming they did). Also, their reviews of their games are generally trustworthy IMO. gamefaqs.com, if i remember right, used to have other "official" reviews from other companies under their reviews section, but now it's all reviews by the players.

Actually if you're talking about RPG games, RPG Classics writes some pretty good reviews and scores games. There's no formal ranking though - it's a very simple site.
