I prefer Star Wars. I think it's got more of an ability to appeal to a wider audience, plus I grew up loving it. 😀

I go with Star trek because its older and more likely to happend in a future. And i have lots of fond memories with it.

Both rock for me. Although I can't wait for The Old Republic to come out...

Ooh, I love both series!

Star Wars feels more like Fantasy rather than Sci-Fi, while Star Trek is more Sci-Fi-ish.

I've been a fan of both for decades, though I admittedly haven't seen much of the original Star Trek series. I've watched most of Next Generation, Voyager, and Deep Space Nine, however.

Of Star Wars, I prefer the original trilogy. It was just awesome back in the day. I've read a bit of the Extended Universe novels, but I grew distant from them when:

Anakin Solo and Chewbacca died. ARGH!

For me;

Star Trek: I only like the the even number episodes.

Star Wars: I only like episode 1, 4, 5, and 6.

Star wars

Why? because I like the storyline better.

Quote from The Guy

Quote from Ghaz

To put it bluntly star wars is on the level with movies like Yojimbo, Seven samurai, A Fistfull of Dollars. While Star Trek is more along the lines of Beverly Hills 90210, or Degrassi High.

May I ask how you put the connection between a high standard, engaging, expansive and rather creative sci-fi series, and some third rate soap operas aimed at people with an IQ below 80?

Easily, and don't be offended I like Star Trek as a series. While the writing and plotlines of Star Trek are far more creative and thought out then the pointless dribble of a regular drama, it is still the same basic priniciple of those shows.

Star Trek had no planned ending, the show was based only around the weekly episode and had very little carry over, so that each episode had some inherit moral to the viewer, like all dramas.

Now when a television show focuses on plot driven action, which is based on the moral of the episode, there is very little actual charecter development (other then the basic story deveolpment of the charecter, ex-past, not mental, emotional, and very rarely ever physical devolpment, which adds depth) Where Star Wars has a planned begininng, middle, and end. Meaning there is only one moral inside the story, allowing for a story driven by actual charecter development, instead of shallow television topics that have been used in every show since I love lucy.

But that's a challenge all television shows have, how do you create a fresh topic weekly and still have actual depth to the cast, when everything has already been said before and you have tighter budgets to work with. To basically sum it up, Star Trek has more substance and value then Star Wars, but Star Wars is better storytelling due to the medium that it is (movie vs. T.V., big differences).

Star Wars: I was a kid when some of the early Star Wars movies came out. I was captivated by them and can even remember some scenes now. I saw Star Trek too, but Star Wars was always more fascinating to a child.

Star Trek is the best sci-fi series to ever exist. Star Wars is nothing more than a typical action movie set in space, whereas Star Trek is a more probable portrayal of the future and did more to shed light on actual social issues in our world. Was there even really any moral storyline to Star Wars besides the typical good vs. evil?

Also, nothing in Star Wars really seemed new and intriguing to me. Star Trek was groundbreaking. It was the first time that a sci-fi futuristic space was shown as a functioning society and not just battles with aliens. It was also groundbreaking in terms of the racial diversity of its characters. While Star Wars might have been fun, Star Trek is absolute genius.

I agree with everything you just said. I don't have to write anything more than the fact I enjoy the original series quite alot.

I can't wait for the new BluRay for the JJ Abrams one.
