ah where to start... Well first of all the whole confessing thing really does happen, but not just in Japan it happens here too. The only thing is it's not so big here with people being all about casual relationships, and all that stupid "hi I don't know you but it'll like, totally make us popular...so uhh yea...let's go out" yep that stupid highschool bullshit that I only pray to god ended in highschool, bad news everyone believe what you will but even after highschool, you still do the same damn thing. However like stated thw whole, i like you/i'm in love with you/will you go out with me/"you complete me" (sorry guys had to throw it in there) it really does happen. Just due to the death of romance, chivalry and true love all the world has to offer is our current dating situation (as stated above) and a wonderful happily ever after to divorce ratio. With that said romance, chivalry, all those wonderful values aren't completely dead, some of us still try to live on honoring those values and believing in love (and no not the fake love you see advertised in movies, on tv, and all around you, i'm talk about real love here). Either way thats a whole other rant, but don't worry this does have some relevence.

Its a romantic ideal, confessing to the one you love. Hell maybe just telling someone you think about them, behind the school, in the abandon gym, on the beach, in the woods, who knows what your fantasy is but before you toss the idea aside as some unrealistic nonsense; serriously take a moment to think about it picture the one person in your life who you can't live without (assuming you have someone...yea noticed an odd trend that comes with forum trolls and otakus most of you have no idea wtf im talking about (beyond what you've seen and read in anime) and if that's the case just picture yourself as an anime character lol) now take a minute or so and think; take every feeling you have for them and try to put it to words, now picture where you want to tell them everything you just came up with, next picture it happening (or even better stop reading this and go tell them (well thats up to you)) hopefully now you understand what's so amazing about it.

Now getting to Japan, now that you understand the glory of confessing your feelings here's the explanation on the letters and such. Yes it's time for the history lesson...made super brief. Going back to feudal Japan marriage was a big thing, and happened quickly; no dating, for drawn out engagement, none of that nonsense. It was simply here's a letter of my feelings, wait for a letter back, if it was good ask parents for permission to wed, tada ur married (did you notice the huge importance of the letter right there? i hope so) this practice like most feudalistic ideals carried over to modern Japan; of course evolving ever so slowly along the way. Now we're left with a confession in a letter. Sure getting married is no longer as sudden (in most casses), but the idea has carried over and sure it might seem rediculous from an outsiders perspective, but hopefully by the time you finish reading this, you'll understand just how amazing confessing your feelings is.

Hopefully that helps you guys out a bit lol. Again sorry about the length you touch on a topic I care about and i can't stop typing. If even one of you guys ended up confessing to someone after reading this then you have to tell me lol, it's nice to know something I did actually meant something to someone.

I agree with you, in my schooling day, they used to do it in a roundabout way but i must admit they're pretty creative with it. They used to have this small book with lovely and cutish art on the cover and even on the pages inside it(on the backgound like Winnie The Pooh) and stuffs. So what they did is that they give to the girls/guys that they like and tell them to write their fav things inside like their hobby, fav movies and stuffs. To avoid making it obvious, they'd also give it to other srudents as well to write inside. From then on all they had to do was follow what was written inside like going to the cinema watching the movies that the person like and everythin and b4 u know it they officially became a couple 😐 Pretty neat huh 🙂

I've been confessed to via love letters but this happened when I was still in elementary. This method was quite popular then among us. All the letters contained something to this effect: I love you and I think about you a lot..

Another method of indirect confession was through the friends of the guy who'd tease you saying:"Hey, ____has a crush on you"

man the only confession i have heard of in my school was this:

this guy wanted to confess to a girl he liked

somehow before he confessed, the entire grade/school found out about it and actually the time when he was going to confess

so when 8th period comes, its his time to confess

and he does, in front of the entire class...

of course, he was lucky he wasn't rejected...

My friend got confessed to in love letter form, at the time she thought it was sweet, now she thinks its cause he was a wimp, thats one reason she dumped him. Other than that, I don't think I have ever really heard of anyone confessing, though it would make things a bit less confusing.
