Oops, the name of the restaurant is "Kodama", not "Kodomo"! ^^;

Of course it is!
I go there once a month to buy cheap manga. They have manga and other related manga stuff ranging from $1-6 dollars. So if you want to buy Japanese manga for dirt cheap, this is the place to go.
I read so much mangas, I'm too lazy to watch anime! 😛 😛 😛

Soooo I have been there & am now back~~
Had no trouble finding BookOff, found some fun stuff, but didn't have time to look through more than the $1 section and some kids' books; didn't see a $3 section though (manga that weren't in the $1 section were $5, as I remember). Would have been fun to go back again at the end of the visit & see if they'd gotten in anything new that I wanted, but we didn't have time.
Did also go to The Strand, and picked up some cheap English-version manhwa and a few bargain books about Japanese history/culture (and a book in Japanese that seems to be about Samurai armor and battle strategies - for $2 I just couldn't pass it by!).
Didn't read about Asahiya before I left so didn't go there, and not so interested in Kinokuniya as I've been there before (though not in NYC) and was more looking for used books.

Huh. Guess bookoff may have raised the prices since I was there. Not surprising since I haven't been there since at least 2003.
Glad to hear you liked Strand's. I'm surprised you found books that cheap actually. My luck sucks at finding stuff I want at a good price. Either I don't have the cash on me or the stuff ends up being only around 25% off the cover price. Then again, I'm usually attracted to the big pretty hard covers on the nice display tables. 😛

It depends a lot on the publisher and how famous/popular something is. Some of the non-$1 things are $3, some are $5, and a few are $10-15.

Ah, I see...I must have just happened to only look at the $5 ones, I guess??
Wish I'd had more time there (kids were pretty bored) and/or time to go back at the end of the trip (Jpop that I wanted...they had a marker for it on the shelf so I know I was in the right place but the shelf was empty... 😔 ), ah well, it was still fun. 😃

Most of what they have is what local people sold them, so the music can be pretty variable and weird. (A lot of their customers are clearly middle-aged Japanese people who don't much like recent jpop.) A lot of what people ditch there (manga too) is clearly stuff they bought like 10-20 years ago.
