nop, there isn´t such a custom where i live. Here valentine´s day is more likely for couples to have a nice time like to go dinner at a fancy place, giving gifts and such, but no really for chocolate giving. There is some kind of similar thing on "sweetness day" when sweets are given to people you know (usually it´s girls who give the sweets to guys).

In grade school and middle school, there was a policy that if you brought candy and/or cards, you had to bring some for everyone in your class. I always got something from either my class or my friends. I know, it's not very romantic, but that was what Valentine's Day was for me throughout my childhood - a party at school and a means to candy.

No. Never have. Maybe this year will be my lucky year! Just gotta prevent the chick that likes me from hating me until Valentine's day. How hard can that be? But knowing me, I'll probably screw it up and recieve absolutely nothing this valentine's day.

Same here. Now I think back and wonder if any girls would have given chocolate to just me if they didn't have to give it to the whole class as well.

at my middle school, we just have a party and there was a rule that no 1 could give any chocolates to any1 unless of course in a secretive way.

I haven't received chocolates from anyone who was interested in me romantically. Even if that were to happen I would just stare suspiciously at the person who gave the chocolates to me.

Though we celebrate Valentine's day, The custom of giving chocolates or flowers to the person you like only applies to people who are ALREADY a couple

There's no custom of giving chocolates on Valentine's day in Poland. Flowers and jewelery are more popular.

Stupid red roses, so not original >:-(

in america both guys and girls give gifts to their lovers, there's no such thing as "white day" here.

EDIT: and why chocolate? What special symbol does chocolate stand in japan?
