This is actually a pretty hard decision for me since there are some really great gems in both comedy styles. I love the subtle comedy of a lot of British movies and shows. As for individual comedians, it's America all the way.

Not sure, I don't really know much about each to compare. For British comedy I've only really seen movies. I love Shaun of the Dead!! American comedy can either be really good or just fly right over my head.

Well I don't like Friends, the Office, Seinfeld, Everybody Hates Chris or any other of those standard American comedies. They are not funny!

British humour seems like it would get my vote...right?

No, because I find The Simpsons to be the funniest show ever. The Boondocks is pretty awesome in humour as well. Both shows have a lot of snide. Anchorman is also very funny and so is Spaceballs (don't know if it's British).

i'm not familiar with britsh comedy so my vote goes for american....

Both are good if you ask me. Both countrys have their shows, comedians and movies that were hilarious and their ones that weren't that funny. If I had to pick a favorite I would have to go with American because if you ask me our version of the office is far superior to the british version. That and you can't really get better than the Boondocks, Cheppelle show, Family Guy, American Dad among many others. I have yet to see any good British stand up unfortunatly. As for movies I really loved the Will Ferral movies especial step brothers and its just hard to beat The Hangover. But as someone mentioned before Montey Python and imo especially Shaun of the dead just = pure win good Job Brits! 😀

I couldn't say, honestly, unless the definition were narrowed down. I generally don't find too much humor in the general American sitcom, whereas I tend to enjoy the British ones I see. But being in the US, it's generally the best of the BBC's programming that gets imported. Whereas we get the umpteen dozen new sitcoms per season, mid-season replacements, summer fillers, ect. to wade through.

As for comedians themselves, some of my absolute favorites are Jeff Dunham (already mentioned), and Christopher Titus. And you don't get much more of the dysfunctional American than Christopher Titus...

British humor always seems more to me, like jokes socially awkward people make that aren't really funny, but people laugh so they wont feel bad. And I am saying this as someone who has seen The Young Ones, Blackadder, a bit of Fry and Laurie, you know, the classics. It's good stuff, but there is better stuff.

So American comedy for me. A good way to figure it out is to watch both versions of the Office and figure out which one makes you laugh more.

Brittish comedy for me. Seinfeld, Simpsons and Curb Your Enthusiasm are the only american comedy's that come close...on the other hand you got Only fools and horses,Yes Minister, Blackadder, Wooster and Jeeves, Allo Allo, Fawlty Towers...

And I actually enjoyed brit version of office more.

Hmm, Monty Python and the Holy Grail may be the best comedy ever, and The Meaning of Life is also hilarious. There's also Death At A Funeral, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz. But that's it. British comedy doesn't do it for me in general.

Then there's American comedy. So many things to list, I can hardly remember them all. Clerks, Hot Shots, Spaceballs, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, Waterboy, Billy Madison, Dirty Work, even though I hate parodies, old parodies like Naked Gun are classics. And there are many more. Then there are also stand up comedians. Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Rodney Dangerfield, Chris Rock, Daniel Tosh, and so many more. British comedy may have Monty Python, but overall, American comedy takes the cake in my book.

I think that neither or both.. basically I really feel it's depending on the material and delivery. There are many American comedic movies and shows I like, as well as many British shows and movies.

I think they both have their strengths and weaknesses.. and sometimes they crossover. I think that the British are much better at making dark and awkward situation humorous... while Americans are good at situational and the one-liners. Over all though... the contexts really depends on the comedian that plays the part, the writing, the delivery. Just many ingredients that make a comedy great.

Also there are crossovers in style.. like ground-hogs day, when Bill Murray became so despondent with his situation, stuck in that loop, that he proceeds to kill himself in many ways, all the while cares on that solemn and depressed attitude. While British comedies like Coupling have a very situation style comedy reminiscent of American Sit-coms.

Personally i prefer British comedy. Monty Python and Blackadder, not to mention Fawlty Towers, are the best comedy shows ever made. I love The IT crowd, 8 out pf 10 cats, Mock the Week and QI as well. Having said that, I do like The Big Bang Theory but overall I prefer the wit and sarcasm of British humour.

In general I prefer British humour but I think American do better dramas. I'm British though so maybe I'm biased.

The pen is mightier than the sword...and considerably easier to write with.
