"Unforgivable" is thrown around a lot in action mangas.
People are suddenly ready to kill or fight when something they deem "unforgivable" occurs.

Whats the deal with that?

because patience has its limit

like this might be offensive but i'll take a wack at solving it.

like i think by judging 4rm manga, j-rock, and j-drama's. many japanese seem to be very quiet and more respectful, and humble rather than loud and violent off the bat. so i would say in my own "theory of the unforgivable idea" is that since they r'nt too violent and wreckless, and they think things thru to a long term extent that they hold grudges when they get mad at people. in this sense i can see how the term "unforgivable" would show up often.

btw hey can a moderator please change the title of this topic to "re-occuring japanese phrases" i think we can use it from now on as a thread where we can try to get down to the bottom of every japanese phrase that someone spots and posts. if u agree than i will edit the purpose of this thread in my first post

I guess the impact of certain phrases gets lost in translation.

the only thing not lost in translation are the photos and ecchiness ... 😐 🤣

Japanese culture is really polite, too much etiquette involved, makes the things they say seem bigger

I'm more familiar with the phrase 'Good Luck' which they use in the Western world. 'Do Your Best!' sounds more formal or happy-go-lucky... but that's 'cause I hardly say that unless I add a 'just' in front of 'do your best'.

"Do your best!" isn't really uncommon to me and I live in the USA.
Alot of people around me say it but they say good luck, too.

So what I got from this is, when it comes over to a country where people are desensitized to violence by age 5, it really loses value.

I see it as a little comical quip, like when Bugs Bunny says "I hope you know, This means war"

"Do your best" i.e. Gambatte - effort is as important as the result.

"Unforgivable" - respect and honor is important in the culture. When you have samurais committing suicide i.e. Seppuku/harakiri on their own free will, it shows you what sort of sense of ethics and justice they possess. So when you do something that goes against the values of your opponent they take it as a personal attack on them.
