I'd have to say that it depends on not only the person, but what item a person is buying.
Yeah, women tend to buy more clothes and accessories/cosmetics, but men spend much more in electronics and huge stuff like cars. It's also kinda funny how some men buy stupid stuff too (my father bought a giant tiger plush doll for no reason. >.>).

So yeah.. depends on the person.

Forget gender it all depends of hobbies. I would not spend so much money if I wasn't into girly shit like clothes and make-up AND gaming, manga, anime, otaku stuff. But then I'd be a frumpy, boring person with no hobbies.
