Isshin was handsome.

I think Aizen did something to their memories. That's the only way to explain the 100 years without a captain on the 10th division. Otherwise, why wouldn't Soul Society hunt him down when he deserted and married a Quincy?

But... what I can't shake off the feeling that Ichigo's mother (what was her name again? Misaki? Masaki?) was a child/teen when she met Isshin. It gave me the impression of him being kinda pedo -_-

My theory:

Well, Toshiro and Matsumoto met Isshin during the time they arrived at Ichigo's house. They told Isshin they wouldn't tell about him to anyone else as they trust him and also now Aizen was proved to be a traitor.

To hide the shame of 10th Division....they told that Toshiro was the captain 10th division had after ages. Then Toshiro said he would make Isshin proud by being a successful captain...

So Ichigo's mother is the daughter of Quincy King then?

Most likely because as he is now, he wouldn't be much use. His zanpakuto is broken, and it wasn't even a normal one, so it probably can't even be fixed by Oetsu. He also was, until the last two chapters, completely ignorant as to what he really is, or his parents real history.

Question now is what exactly is the nature of his power, and how is he going to be able to fight.

Another question that hasn't been answered at all is what the actual goal of the Vandenreich is. Do they want to destroy everything? With such a massive imbalance between hueco mundo, earth, and soul society, they could bring the world to ruin. They also seem to be possibly gunning for the spirit king, who holds everything together, so maybe they really do want to just reduce everything to nothing.

From what I gathered in this chapter, all shinigami have a potential for a zanpakuto, but get an asauchi as a kind of form to their soul? (It's hard to explain.)
As for why even though they've been to Ichigo's house, they never made it clear that they recognized Ichigo/Isshin. Maybe it was not that they didn't t recognize him, as much as them keeping mum about it because either Isshin explicitly asked them to, or because they know their former captain well enough to know that he probably wouldn't want his kids to know, at least until he told them?

I remember Byakuya told Rukia that Ichigo looked "like him" obviously referring to Kaien, so maybe Rukia did recognize Isshin, just like Isshin I'm sure knew Rukia was there in chapter one, and decided to play dumb.

Thinking back to Hitsugaya and Rangiku's back story, it seems that those who have the capacity to become a shinigami have spiritual power. I believe that Gin knew Rangiku had spiritual power because he found her starving, and I guess you don't need to eat in soul society unless you have spiritual power.

Anyway, even before he became a shinigami Hitsugaya definitely had Hyourinmaru inside of him, causing the area around him to become cold. Rangiku tells him to become a Shinigami so he can learn to control that power before it affects people around him like his grandmother.

I would guess that the Asauchi allows people with high spiritual power to bring out their inner power as they imprint themselves onto the Asauchi. Ouetsu says that there isn't any shinigami that can use their zanpakutou without the use of one of his Asauchi.

I guess then either Ichigo is special, or he really isn't a Shinigami. He has shinigami powers, but he's a human.

The eating this is established fact. I believe Rukia mentions it in her flash back about her time with Renji before joining the Gotei 13. They still need to drink and can eat, but don't need to (they stole candy and water). Those with spiritual power do need to eat though.

My guess is that any Quincy power Ichigo might have may allow him to use an Zanpakutou (maybe it is his quincy bow/weapon imitating a Zanpakutoi after coming into contact with Rukia's) without a Asuachi.

On another note in place of an Asuachi, Yhwach (Juha Bach) may have taken its place and 'hid' or was imprisoned in Ichigo thus the resemblance to Zangetsu. He was then released when Ichigo used the final Getsuga Tenshō. It is possible in this scenario that Yhwach was inside Ichigo in an effort to strengthen Ichigo as a half member of the quincy (and possibly related to Yhwach) for his master plan (which may have some connection to Aizen).
