Is it me or the MC is almost always OP.
And generally for no reason...
Seriously some authors should play MMO before saying nonsense.
Like for exemple character with maxed stats but no-one else happen to have maxed stats... In real MMO if someone do it (yeah sure there is always a 1st one to access it) a dozen of other hardcore player will have it too in a few days after.
Plus having 1 or 2 level above others doesn't mean you'll surpass anyone and can do any raid boss alone...

Sorry for my rant, I'm probably not the first one to say that but seriously....
Just started to read The New Gate (I like it a lot, and there isn't even a reason why he should be OP before ending the game since he'll be OP with the skills he obtain with the final fight in prologue....)
Same for RPG (the webnovel by Gaechaban), the MC was the best of the best in few days, leave the game for 2 years and still is the best ? He crafted a unique item required to access new areas but since he left all players are stuck with no hope for new areas but still play on this server for 2 years ?
And in log horizon the MC use basic combat strategy for PvP but everyone seems amazed ?

I still read this genre of novel or manga and loving it, but it's still the same as few years ago and I don't see any evolution in it except that now MC are from the villain side not the hero side.

So I'd like to know how others people view MMO themed mangas or novels or animes

In that case you might be interested in reading Hai to Gensou no Grimgal (Novel)

I think OP MCs are just the current hype, especially in this genre. We’ll hopefully see more diversity in the future.

True to the current hype being OP MCs.

Seconding Hai to Gensou no Grimgal (Novel), though it isn't an mmo, more like a transferred to a fantasy world.

Only Sense Online (Novel)
For this one the main character isn't op. Rather, some of his friends could be considered that. He is kinda...leading in some areas while being weak in others, which I find is quite ok.

Thanks for those links xD

And I don't dislike fantasy themed xD
It was just a rant because of this popular trend about MMO MC OP that are completly unrealistic.

My example about The New Gate is the part when he is in The New Gate game with other players. Not the part 500years later. Yes he is still OP but since he acquired unique skill because of the final boss that are close to cheat and he is the only player, the feeling is different, I don't have a problem with that. But the part were he was in a guild of 6 that can do PvP of 6 vs 1000, he was the only maxed player etc... It was what I pointed.
for example I have no problems with Ore to Kawazu-san no Isekai Hourouki
The MC is OP but the story is well made for that.

What I was pointing is specifically about MMO and the view of this genre by authors.
