When it comes to AMVs, if they are done right or I like the music / scenes well enough for me to find out more, then I would watch them.
Otherwise, I pretty much find them a waste of time and try to stay away from them though that is not easy.
Especially when some AMV makers appear to go out of their way to annoy people, by deceptively naming their videos after scenes / fights in countless animes without an AMV warning and making anime watching in general such needless chore for those who just want to watch anime.

I've been making AMVs for about 4 years now, and I've improved a lot since I've first started. It's really stress relieving to me, and fun. I watch them too, it's nice to appreciate the ones that obviously took a lot of work to make.

How can you only make them and not watch them?
It's like writing poetry without every having heard or read one.
As for the poll itself, I only watch them. There are some pretty good ones out there, though I haven't seen a new good one in years.

I try to stay away from that stuff... unless I want to hear the song and it's the only way to do it "legally".
Though, there is one that I approve of...

I like them enough to have watched every episode of AMV HELL. But that is kinda a best of; and the single ones you find on the web are sadly mostly not as entertaining so its been some time since I last watched any.
And I'm also curious about who voted to make AMVs without watching any.

i don't watch them intentionally.
i've only seen 4 and they were accidental clicks on youtube (when trying to find a certain clip in an anime or something). though, i did find a random one today when looking for Ikuto playing with catnip and found that instead. And now, I have the song stuck in head! 🙄

No.
AMV= Anime Music Video= Scenes from one or more animes played together with music or just any kind of recorded audio that doesn't belong in the anime normally.
But now you've made me curious about those movies with anime playing in the background. Where did you see that?

I make them. 🤣 It's a good deal for me, since I am an obsessive perfectionist. I still hate the things I make, but maybe one day I'll turn out something passable.
I watch a lot of AMVs, too. Unfortunately, AMVs lean frighteningly close to the line between fair use and copyright infringement, but I think they're a constructive and interesting way to express one's interest in a fandom—if done correctly.

I've been both watching and making them since 2002, hang around the Org forums, and have participated in several multi-editor projects (which include several clips in AMV Hell 0, CE, 4, and /0). I don't have a YouTube account, although a couple of my videos have been uploaded by other users (and there was one that also popped up on Kazaa way back in early 2004).

wait..are AMV and MAD the same thing...? I don't think they are... confused
The thing that distinguishes AMVs from MADs is country of origin. 'MAD' is the term the Japanese scene uses, 'AMV' is the one pretty much all other non-Japanese scenes use. The two originated independently of each other in the late 70s/early 80s. Some MADs are completely the same in execution as the average AMV (Douga MADs), others use still images taken from visual novels, motion tracking, and loads of vector effects (Seishiga MADs; these are typically the ones people think of when hearing the term). And then there are those which cross over into the original content category and may contain shades of both of the previous. Some AMV editors have gone out of their way to do extremely MAD-like videos, but these are generally rather few and far between.

I think AMV's are very enjoyable, there are some pretty top-notch ones on the internet, but mostly I watch them because they have a song I'm interested in rather than because the Video itself is good.
I find myself watching them when I'm bored with nothing to do.
