Playstation 3 price cut

I haven't verified this, but my husband also saw/heard that the PS3 games created from now on will not be backwards compatible with the PS2. That's part of how they can justify the price cut from here forward.
Wait, what?
Does PS2 run PS3 games?
As for the backwards compatible of PS3,
the latest models haven't ran PS2 games
for a while.Maybe I said it backwards - PS2 games won't run on PS3? That would make more sense. I think part of the cost-reduction is that they're not including the hardware which will also read the old PS2 format.
There hasn't been one running PS2 games for a while.
Mine doesn't either, but it truly is not a slim one.
It's almost XBOXHUGE.

I know of two people who will buy it now that it's slim and slightly cheaper... I think it will affect sales but backwards compatibility would be nice....
Glad I got mine last year, it's a 2007 Model and supports backwards compatibility via software.

All current reports indicate that it's not backwards compatible, and no future systems by Sony will be PS2 compatible

I'll probably still get it only because of the Resistance, Uncharted, and God of War franchises, Infamous, and MGS4.

Price cut or not, I got a good deal on my 160gb for only $300 😀
But yeah, they'll profit from the slim..

if your to cheap to get it when it came out, quit joking with yourself and get the slim. backwards compatible are for those who jumped on the sony bandwagon when they need you.
😔
they cut prices and features so people like you can by it.

Price cut:
-Clear out their "fat" ps3 inventory to make place for the slim.
-Well, we are talking Mr. Proprietary Sony, with its over-expensive products.
-Manufacturing of blu-ray components isn't as expensive as it once was, so what was the holy grail of the market (back in the hd-dvd/blu-ray war) has become almost a commodity.
-Hardware-based backward compatibility is gone since the 60GB was phased out.
-Software -based backward compatibility depends on the ps3 models/their manufacturing dates.
-The ps3 slim is not exactly is a surprise, they had done the same with the ps2, so it's part of their business plan.

Actually, I read another article that said that based on the hardware costs alone, every PS3 Slim unit sold is losing money for Sony. However, they make it up through games, peripherals, and other things, so they're making profit in the end (but not THAT much compared to the Xbox or the Wii)

Or it could be because some people don't want to buy a 2nd system just to play the PS2 and PS1 games.

why are you crying about backwards compatible, if it was such a simple thing.
people were to cheap to buy it when it was stocked full of features, now you cry when they lower price and cut backwards compatible.
what would you like for them to give you a free product, then maybe you would be happy.(for every system sold sony loses money)

Rumors have it that in late December (probably after christmas?) Sony will cease support of the ps2. When this happens, Sony will release a firmware update that will allow backward compatibility on the ps3 via the new software (through emulation?).
As I said, these are rumors, but I've got my fingers crossed. 😀

I think it will make some difference but whats really needed is more games. I probably won't buy one yet even if I can afford it because I'm waiting to see which console will be the rpg King. As it is there isn't many RPG's for any of the new consoles.

Or they cut prices because sales were lagging and major game companies were threatening not to publish games on their console if they didn't do anything. They're not doing this for anything but their bottom line.

As far as I know, this has been true for the older PS3's as well. However, it's not really unique since Microsoft loses money for every Xbox360 they sell too, although I'm sure the exact number for both has shrunk thanks to lower costs as technology advances.

I can't understand what the big deal with the Wii is, how is it leading in sales. I wouldn't want one if it was free ( well maybe I would 😛 ). The games aren't all that, as a matter of fact they are lame. I think that the Wii will soon fade out and fall behind in sales and the true consoles will step up.
No one gives a shit what trite garbage you write here.
