Quote from TaoPaiPai

its almost sad that ppl spend time on such nonsense

ppl die of hunger in big parts of the world

China have 200million ppl that live by sucking the other 750millions dry
not to mention it being a dangerous millitant dictatorship

Russia seems like a gangrun hellhole[maybe not for the rich but thats just 3% of the population]

Amusingly, if we were to look at the Gini Index, China's income and wealth disparity are both lower than that of the USA and many other countries.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_income_equality
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_distribution_of_wealth
(Oh... Russia too.)

They are authoritarian, but as far as their military goes, they've been using it for their own national defense. The only countries that have been using their militaries aggressively are the freedom loving ones.

So tell me, why the Hell should I worry about China right now, when there are more immediate concerns at home?

and just bcoz we dont hear about it every day anymore does not mean Aids and so on stopped killing ppl in Africa

human trafficking is a big problem with millions of ppl being bought and sold like trash

"Aids and so on" killing people in Africa... Human trafficking... Do you know some of the short-term solutions we have for that?

  1. We "civilized nations" (heh) go and subjugate them and tell them exactly how to behave, and control everything about them. AKA imperialism.
  2. We let them develop their own strong state that has stronger and tighter control over the population. This, unfortunately, runs counter to liberal democratic ideals.

but no
lets not focus on real problems
lets focus on something silly like the end of the world and religious nuts
media of course like money so
might scare ppl enough so they watch our shit/read our shitty newspapers

Quote from RexIX

Ahh common, according to religious fanatics the world is supposed to end at least three times per year. Even discussing such an option is ridiculous.
[...]
Seconded.
Really people you srly have nothing better to do then running around and screaming that the world is going to end?

LOL. Hopefully, it stops there. I don't know whether to laugh or applaud your satire. I'll give you two the benefit of the doubt and assume you guys were being clever. 😉

It's been my view for a while now that religion just ain't what it used to be.

In days long past, religious doomsayers can conjure up some factoids and predict the rapture or some other apocalyptic nonsense, which never came to fruition. Religious demagogues can call entire nations to invade and subjugate other peoples' using emotionally charged speeches. "We MUST save their souls!"

"We MUST spread the Word of God!"

The ones who don't want their souls to be saved? "Heathens!"... "Savages!"... "Infidels!"

Nowadays, most people don't take these religious nutjobs seriously. Thank God.

But what do we have to replace the religious nutjobs? Political nutjobs. Political doomsayers will conjure up random factoids without bothering to get a complete picture of situations themselves. They'll worry the irrational plebeian masses into a frenzy with their emotionally charged speeches. "We MUST do something about China, Russia, Africa, etc..."

"We MUST counter their military now!"

"We MUST spread FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY!"

The ones who don't want a foreign entity to "save" them? Well, they're the bad guys. "Communists!"... "Savages!"... "Terrorists!"... "Shills!"

Different excuse, same irrationality and arrogance. Us enlightened folk are just so eager to help. No time to research the facts or get a complete picture. No need to get to know the other side or learn their language. Calm, composed, rational response is not heroic. We need to do something now now now. Don't think! Feeeeel. We're such generous people. Too generous to care. We just can't keep to ourselves. 😛

As things are now, after hearing your wonderful satire, I've realized that I don't mind these religious doomsayers that come out of the woodworks once in a while. They keep the idiots busy. I'd rather idiots be kept busy worrying all the time about an apocalyptic Rapture than worrying about an Nuclear War or worrying about an economic meltdown... The latter two worries actually have a chance of becoming self-fulfilling prophecies if enough irrational people have too much time on their hands. I say, let the religious doomsayers cannibalize the idiocy of the political and economic doomsayers! 🤣

The problem I see isn't that we don't worry enough, it's that too many worry too much... without knowing enough about the issues to form rational informed opinions.

I'm perfectly happy that some people are being distracted by religious nuts. Heaven forbid they get themselves involved in politics that matter.

Yeah... 😀

At the same time, we have to remember that this is only funny because we don't take religious doomsayers aren't taken very seriously. Even when they are taken seriously, it won't affect us most of the time.

Political doomsayers (demagogues) and economic doomsayers (bears)... a lot of people actually take these guys seriously... and when they do, the consequences are severe.

Economic doomsayers further damage confidence in our economy, which end up hurting it. Their predictions become self-fulfilling prophecies. Whether these are paid bashers or bears merely trying to shake confidence in a single stock for their own profit, they actually successful a lot of the time.

Same with political doomsayers. It's like they don't have anything but war on their minds.

What, so the one he predicted in 1994 was just a precursor? If this one's real, then I guess he has my apologies. Of course, I might be too busy what with the lava, vermin, whatever he predicts will happen.
Joking(?) aside, I only heard about this guy last week and already I hate his guts. I mean, his "followers" (a.k.a. cult members) are blowing their savings, quitting school and work and disrupting the economy even more, etc. How will they feel if/when the world doesn't end?

We have to wait to see? It seems fairly obvious right now to be honest.

I actually talked to a close confidant of him about his prediction in 1994 and the person said Mr Camping "misjudged" a Bible verse (referring to the book of Mathews) where it says that rapture can happen sooner if world gone worse or sth like that (refering to homosexuality in the US in particular).

I'm not that knowledgeable about the Bible so you may want to read the book yourself and get the exact quote. Mr Camping wrote a book titled "1994?" with a question mark which means he's not exactly sure but is close to believing that there may be a great chance for the Judgment Day to come sooner on 1994 (which didn't happen). This time, Family Radio insists that May 21 is the day. Like 100% so... we'll see.... he said we shouldn't make plans on Saturday but I did already so let's hoping that the doomsday is still far because there is definitely a lot of things I haven't and want to do.

Also, what I found funny is how people offered service to take care of the pets from the people who would be rapture. I think it's hilarious and I laughed so hard. Also, what about those FB event that says rapture looting.... o god.... I think this rapture news' driving people crazy! 😲

oh... and the news in Reuters is misleading since Family Radio doesn't have any association with a specific branch of Christianity. I don't think he's particularly an Evangelical or Baptists or anything.... And I don't think Christians want to be associated with Mr Camping too or at least, that's what I heard from some Christians and my Christian friends
