As alerted by fellow admin faye, another company bites the dust in the US. The Japanese company Broccoli is closing off its USA branch, completely disappearing by February 2009. Stated reasons include increase in competition and drop on revenue.

Sorry to see another company folding under the bubble of the US anime/manga market. Was interesting to see how much capital was used to start Broccoli USA, though. I would have expected more.

it's probably because of the crappy economy... gas here in the US dropped $2.50 in a week, nobody's really buying anything

Aw, that's a shame. I was really enjoying "E's" and "Kamui". Well, best of luck to their employees!

(Heh heh, gas is $1.98 in my neck of the woods.)

That's really too bad. It's a shame to see any company go out of business. It's understandable. Buying manga is a luxury now. If I had a choice between filliing my tank with gas or buying a book I could finish in 30 minutes, I wouldn't even see there was a choice.

This sucks... I was really enjoying "My Dearest Devil Princess", but it looks like we'll be stuck at the 3rd volume (assuming it comes out this month as planned).

Looks like I'll have to hope one of the scan groups picks it up and finishes it off, similar to what was done with "Happy Lesson". Either that, or as posted in the blog on Broccoli's site, another US Publisher can pick it up.

Sad news indeed 🙁

sigh I see no mention of their BL imprint Boysenberry Books, but I suppose it's safe to assume yaoi fans such as myself won't be seeing Cigarette Kisses (Kuchibiru no Yukue) published ='O
