great, now i'm hungry. i chose okonomiyaki from the list, but there are so many other delicious things too- yakiniku, chicken katsu, curry rice, ochazuke drool the funny thing is before i went to Japan people would ask me what i would eat, since i'm not a big fan of seafood. i would tell them that i was pretty sure there was other food besides fish 🙄 i actually gained 5-10 lbs when i was there, which was the heaviest i've ever gotten 😲 i miss all of the yummy food! and i did try the seafood dishes offered to me 😁

I've only had sushi and ramen. The ramen I eat doesn't seem like anything special, so I wouldn't call it a favorite food and I hate sushi (which surprised me because I love fish)

but from the manga I've read I've always thought that I wouldn't really like Japanese food. It seems like a lot of vegetables, and I hate most vegetables

Hard to choose, since none of them is actually my favourite japanese food. I love ebi tempura with cold soba. Cha soba is great. Then instead of sushi I prefer sashimi. Sushi has a lot of types too, chirashizushi is basically sashimi on top of a bowl of rice. I am fine with any kind as long as they make it properly.

Okonomiyaki and yakitori are both delicious. Though I must say I am no fan of nabe (only for rare occasion or when the weather is freaking cold or when I have no choice but to eat). However I would never refuse sukiyaki.

Bento is not a kind of food. It is a lunch packet which contains a lot of different kinds of dishes, mostly accompanied by rice. Even though the poll states it as a meal (which is correct), somehow the illogical and mismatch factor kind of stands out.

Well seriously this poll misses a lot of "making-people-drool" japanese food, but since one can only choose from the mentioned options, I will take tempura.

I chose sushi just because it's the most common(outside japan). As for tofu-dango... I hate it with a passion

I've never had sushi, so out of the ones I have tried (Ramen, Tempura, Onigiri, Miso), I would have to say my favorite is Onigiri with tuna filling. It's delicious! My home-made ones never come out quite right, though... XD

I still have to try nabe and tofu-dango, but so far I'd say my favorite is onigiri (I love that sour umeboshi-taste, plus it's so simple to make).

What I really like about japanese kitchen is that it manages to make dishes that are light, delicious and healthy. Not included (but very appreciated by me) in the list are miso-soup, any type of donburi (gyudon, katsudon... _____ ) and japanese pickles, oh god shaved ice and oh god giinko is totally right cha soba is awesome too. I think there is too much to like..

It has to be sushi! It's so yummy!

I've only had the instant ramen so until I've had my share of freshly made ramen and compare, sushi is going to be number one for me 😀

Nigiri, I think it classifies as sushi.
(I voted Onigiri because it sounds like nigiri)

I've tried Sushi, Ramen, Tempura, and a Bento. Each with varying success. I could never really shallow the sushi so it has been out since forever, and ramen can get creative at times, but Tempura has to be the best for me. As far as Bento boxes go, the ones at my school kinda suck. For some reason I don't enjoy them. And they are pretty limited. Maybe I'll go to the restaurant where my school orders them from and see what else they got.

Rice balls for me. The slightly salty, crisp exterior, and fishy fillings all come together into something delicious. Spicy tuna and tuna mayo are the best.

Also, glad to see natto didn't even make the poll, though bento is kind of a weird option. That basically a lunchbox, you could put most anything in it.

Onigiri. It's easy to eat, and even the instant ones taste like heaven in a conveniently removed plastic wrapper. Fish, fish and mayo, plum, chocolate, no matter the filling, onigiri=yummy.

I said this in the comments, but I'm of the opinion that ramen should have not been included. didn't think about bento the way it's been contested till reading, but i still consider it a valid option since lambchopsil didn't put all of the above. that's what a bento is, technically, if you apply that only japanese foods can be used in it.

however, ramen is something that came to japan in the same way it spread over the rest of the planet. it is not an native food as far as i've been informed. Japanese style udon could've been used, but not ramen.

On a side note, I've had the ramen and udon and tofu-dango at the restaurant atop mt. fuji(said to be the very best in the world, due to a mix of the altitude and the quality of chefs they hire) and i still pick a 7/11 104yen onigiri over those.(well, last time i bought one that was the price)

if you still consider ramen valid and just want anything SOLD in japan, then even though the idea for the food came from the chinese "niku-man"(or meat bun, don't know the original chinese name for it. sry) i woulda wanted an-man or pizza-man or choco-man; or pino ice cream. Now THOSE i woulda picked over onigiri.

Edit: or sweet potato flavored ice-cream. mmm, yummy.

If I had to pick, probably Curry. From the poll's list it would be... tempura or ramen.

I dont like japanese food

as i see it the japanese kitchen/cuisine is by far the worst of the developed countrys

i know its popular and have been for some time now...atleast among the hipsters

its been popular since the late 70s now
when is some obscure african nations weird food habbits going to be THE thing we go out and eat

and why is there no
whale bacon on that list
or other endangered or otherwise illegal japanese dishes on that list[they dont seem to care much for rules/international law and so on]
i hear Dolphin is popular in japanese schools
