...none of that is true, really, except maybe the bit about the 70s, and maybe "hipsters" if you have a particular outlandish definition of what constitutes a hipster.

People eat "weird African food" all the time.

If you're talking about whaling, tell China to stop cornering the blue-fin tuna market. That's the entire reason for it when you ask anyone in the ministry of agriculture and fisheries,they're just worried about the market share and refuse to set a precedent to agree to any fishing treaties until their stake is guaranteed. Dolphin has never been served in any Japanese schools outside of little towns with dolphin research facilities (yes, those exist). Whale was served post WWII because it was a cheap protein that was easy to obtain, but it hasn't been since barring a one-day instance caused by a horribly orchestrated and thoroughly reviled political maneuver. It's just about seceding tuna rights.

Dynamite rolls, dynamic rolls (spin on the former), miso soup, agedashi tofu, gyoza, prawn tempura, yam tempura, yakiniku, sukiyaki, dried fish, dried squid, takoyaki, ramen (Ajisen Ramen is best~) soba, udon, yakisoba, mitarashi dango, wagashi, etcetc~

And rice with fish furikake on it. B) Never get tired of rice. But the good furikake are so expensive... If it's not perfectly sweet sticky-rice (occasionally with agedashi tofu sauce all over it), I prefer long-grain~

Onigiri are nice, but I much prefer the Chinese lotus leaf-wrapped pork & sticky rice. Seriously, it's like on another level. Dim sum akdjhalkdjhasg OFF TOPIC, BUT STILL.

I'm Chinese, and I love Asian cuisine, but I live with a Caucasian family. :'C (Sigh.) What hurts the most is that I can't stand spicy foods, cheese, and tomato sauce. OTL

I think people haven't got a good taste of bento. When I go out to eat, I prefer eating the bento (especially my Hamburger bento =D) because I get to have a good lunch (includes with desert) for a good price. Sushi or ramen, I have have them some other time.
