Many people have referred to the case of Asian girls dating white guys as a case of Asian girl "self-hate."
I'd always considered myself a real Asian girl - wear my hair in long Japanese style cut, put on traditional Chinese Buddhist jewelry, and cooks Chinese food. (Not to say, I did prefer Charles Dickens and American Folk/Rock to J-Pop and the like...) However, the moment I'd hit puberty, I knew I had a crush on the happy, extroverted white boy making trouble for the teacher in the front of the class. White guys (not all, but often) seem to outshine Asian guys with their more lovably outgoing/rebel-without-cause attitude and casual appearance. In manga, sometimes Asian guys can come off as commanding/cool, but in real life most of them are crumby/shy, unfashionable, and exude no masculine appeal.
Maybe because of the way I look however, the majority of guys who decide to introduce themselves or just eyeball are self-absorbed Asian guys (so many of them seem to go exclusively for Asian girls maybe because we appear "easy" and it just makes me feel used). If another damn clueless, ill-dressed, pre-med Asian guy tries to hit on me at a cafe I will seriously knee him in the balls and dump my frap on him (not to be mean or anything, I wouldn't actually do this).
Anyways, interracial dating - what are your thoughts? 😛

Doesn't it just depend on the individual?

I couldn't care less about the race of the girl I like, or the social standing, or anything else like that. These things come to mind only when they are practically required. Honestly, whenever I'm filling forms et cetera, and I come upon religion/caste/things like that, I"m stymied for a sec or two.

That aside, please don't knee anybody. It hurts a lot(or so I've heard 😛 ). Give the shy guy(Asian or White) a chance. He might be more than he seems.

There are times when you will miss what you never had. I wonder how you will find what you so desperately need.

My thoughts in interracial dating is that you should date a person you like, somebody who has a good personality. Who cares what colour their skin is?

Well, interracial mating allows for two quite different gene pools to come together, thus stronger offspring with more dominant characteristics are created. So that may be a cause for your attraction.

Though combined with mental/emotional aspects, in the end it differs from each individual who they are attracted to.

Your race is as important as the colour of your hair.
Attractive people are attractive and that is all there needs to be to it.
Eventually you won't pay any attention to little details of a person
when you know them so well that you see them holistically.

er... Shortcomings was quite good? Kind of out of the blue, but I read it following an interview with a writer I particularly like and found it oddly insightful.

People are just attracted to different things. Personally I don't put a whole lot of emphasis on race, but I could see it becoming an issue when your identity is tied up in it. Ironically, it might be my experience as a white male that makes me forget that race can really be a primary characteristic for some people, despite a couple year stint in Japan that often left me the role of awkward tall guy on the rush hour train.

Personally, I was never a fan on interracial dating, but I accept it, and I often find myself attracted to girls of another race. To be honest, if I liked a girl of another race, I'd still go for it. I guess I don't like interracial dating in general, but will do it. Sort of a weird thing to explain, guess you can say I'm pro for it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with interracial dating. However, it's quite possible that the reason you get fewer non-Asian boys approaching you is that they are aware some people don't go for interracial dating, and therefore think you might not be interested. Unfortunately, there's not really any way around this except to be more active in flirting yourself.

im a twinkie.. but honestly in my opinion, its not about the race/ethnicity it depends on the individual and your taste.. for me i like girls with a certain style and charisma that stand out.. asian girls can also be plain and boring and just dont stand out much from their peers because they all dress and try to follow the same trends anyways.

but like i said im a twinkie i go by style.. im beyond race and ethnicity, just depends on who you are as a person besides that shy asian guy could have could have a secret life like a dancer/dj/artists etc but because of his family predicament grew up awkward and learning how to break free from his shell.. though some are just plain boring as well.

Really? From where I am from, Asian guys are quite the opposite, I rarely see any "player" type of Asians, the ones I know and see are more of the committed type. Being an Asian myself, I never thought about playing another girl at all, or ever, it's just not how I was raised and what I believe in. I'm committed. 🙂

My mother and I watched anime and japanese movies, and where I grew up it was weird for a white girl to know and like these things. I guess I saw my man as tall, mature, intelligent and gorgeous, because that was the kind of man pictured in all I watched. I got older and grew out of it, and all the asian guys I went to school with were unattractive, shy, and short. So I gave up the idea around the time I hit 7th grade. In high school, all the asian boys would pick on the asian girls for liking white boys, as if it werent okay. It was all about asian couples from the same country. This behavior disgusted me...

But who knew I would be dating a mexican man now? Hes all I wanted a man to be.
Sometimes we get weird looks, mostly from older couples, both white and mexican. Its really sad that this happens, I wish people could just accept the fact that we are in love. Sometimes people talk about me in spanish.And sometimes when I walk into a store with my boyfriend they assume he will steal something.
I wish this prejudice would go away. I heard a story on NPR that asian females are the most likely to marry out, black males too. Hispanics in general had a low marry out rate and white people, both male and female, married out about the same.
I just dont understand the hatred. Love is love.

Hmmm, yeah I read somewhere too that asian males and african females are the two least datable ethnic groups. Maybe being an asian girl or black guy, I guess we are just stuck with having to deal with the worst pickings...
