I wonder if there is an RPG game which does not focus too much on battling, one that is fun, has many side quests or secrets to unlock. Anime/manga style charaters (like an energetic pervert or a shy highschooler) preferred. For examples, that game has a heroine like Konata (from LStar) as the world saviour running around doing pointless things or an FF game that concentrates on treasure hunting and interacting with the characters. And I don't know Japanese so doujin games and dating sims is out of my reach (even though I want to play them so badly). I hope there are some. Give me some name please 🙂

you can't switch the language from english so i never played it more than 10 mins, but it seems like a game you described.

could try fate/stay night there is an english version out. despite being an h-game it really is worth playing just for the story.

for anime/manga style characters with a good plot I'd recommend Odin Sphere and Grimgrimoire as for gameplay with lots of side quests I second Persona 3 and recommend Kingdom Hearts series.

You can try Unlimited Saga. Though I didn't really get that far into it. Kingdom Hearts is very good.

Unfortunately, the game that best fits what you describe is Planescape: Torment. The character variety is interesting, and you can talk yourself around 99% of all fights. The reason it's unfortunate is because the graphics are terrible, and from what I've heard the interface is annoying.

The Elder Scrolls series has tons and tons of sidequests. If you get it for the PC and then pick up some choice mods, the game is pretty tasty. If you don't want to, you can avoid a lot of fights, and simply deal with the numerous side quests.

The Baldur's Gate series is amazing, Baldur's Gate II in particular. With a lot of side quests running as long as twenty hours, interesting characters both in and out of your party, an epic scale main plot, and the option to wander around for hours, it's easily my favorite game of all time.

You also may want to try the Fallout series, but I don't know too much about it other than that it's good.

Lost Odyssey for Xbox 360 has the least amount of random battles I have seen, so far.

This is because there is a level cap for certain areas so attempting to grind levels is pointless.

Also, the game is mostly story and plot driven. I'd consider it more of a dramatic game, than anything else (Which means if it were an anime, it'd be a dramatic/scifi type).

The character designs where done by Takehiko Inoue, creator of Slam Dunk, who's currently (I believe) still working on Vagabond.

The music is done by Nobuo Uematsu, who's known mostly for creating the wonderful Final Fantasy music from days past that we all know and love.

Witcher aka Wiedzmin rules many other RPGs out. The Extended edition is coming out in May, so I suggest waiting until then.

Though there're quite a few battles in it, the entire background and details like society, magical, races, hierachies, creatures, etc., are highly thought out.

Unlike many games which claim to have real "grey" situations which involve moral dilemmas you'll have to make, Witcher really delivers. Who's the good and who's the more evil person? The witch who sold medicine and potions to a gal, to aid in her suicide? Or the townspeople who're lead by the church and discriminate against females and who likely knew that the girl had been/ was being raped but did nothing about it?

The humans(your own race) constantly discriminates against and even kills non-humans like dwarves and elves. But many of the younger elves and dwarves usually join the Squirrels and think that by taking shots at humans and kidnapping their children, they will gain some form of justice. So who will you side with?

Also, unlike most games where you can drink endless potions and still live through till the end of the day, there's a toxicity for each potion you drink. This means you can't drink over 200 potions and live to see the next day. 🙂

the only bad thing about witcher is its auto save feature and awfully long loading time, even though my pc isn't that slow (intel e6300 7600gt)
