Something realistic

I'm looking for something along the lines of Hourou Musuko and Sweet Flower Blues, a story where the characters seem human (preferably.)
Or alternatively suggest something interesting (i.e. not generic action/romance manga.) Some humor would be welcome.
I've read quite a bit so there probably isn't any point in recommending any overtly popular series.

You don't have public lists so I don't really know if you'll have already read these recommendations, but:
Solanin
Bitter Virgin
What a Wonderful World
Monster
REC
for humor that's interesting:
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei that is, if you can handle dark humor.
NHK ni Youkoso!

Monster isn't popular? 😕
Thanks for the rest of the recommendations, even though I've read a few.

No, it's just so good that it has to be recommended in case you haven't read it.

I can't remember what it's called or where I saw it but I remember the first chapter or so was about a kid who is normally very gentle but he gets knocked out by some karate guy and then he turns into a berserker and becomes really strong, he still gets beaten by the karate guy but just by a little. During the fight there's a commentary from a gym teacher or something about the history of berserkers or something like that. If anyone knows what this is or where I can find it I would greatly appreciate it.
