Hmmm, I only care about One Piece these days since I've been disappointed with BLEACH & Naruto. Regarding the successors of those three, it's kinda tough.

I always wanted to read Psyren, since I know it's gotten a following. Beezlebub, I've been hearing a lot of praise about.

It depends on which series has a wide variety of characters that universally appeal to a lot of people along with a epic fantasy-ish story. With FMA gone, I really don't know what to pick. All the shonen manga I like tend to be a bit wacky (i.e. Gintama)

As stated in previous posts here, i think it's impossible for any manga, which is already publishing, to succeed the big 3. But where is a lot of decent ongoing manga, but all of it has some flaws.

And this flaws are:

  1. Already publishing for too long to suddenly become so popular worldwide.

  2. Already has some failed\short anime adaptation. I think that to reach Big3's popularity manga must have long(50+) and fairly successful anime adaptation, to gain more fans from anime watching auditory.

  3. Main characters must have some "reasonable" room for development, meaning not being too badass already.

  4. Manga must not have some "questionable" morale and aspects for western auditory.

  5. Manga must not be totally humor based and too absurd.

  6. Manga must have some solid and interesting setting and a lot of characters from the beginning.

  7. Manga must not have too must harem elements.

  8. Manga must be aimed for 14-16 auditory. So some elements are forbidden.
So, now i'll check some manga(i personally read) to see why they can't succeed the big 3.

  9. Hayate, the Combat butler. 1,2,5. It's generally a great manga, but it's humor based(even if it's more serious now). Anime adaptation was pretty good but full of unnecessary filler and jokes. And it ends. Hayate has to must of harem elements, somewhat a bit of "questionable" morale and too must other anime\manga references.

  10. Nurarihyon no Mago. 1,2,3 This one is easy. Main charecter already developed to much and anime adaptation was so-so.

  11. History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi. 1,2,7. Great manga what come out in wrong time. Now is in shadoe of big 3. Also, a bit too much ecchiness.

  12. Kekkaishi. 1,2. Same fate as Kenichi. I really dunno why this manga isn't so popular as Big 3.

  13. Beelzebub 5. I think manga have to much humor and absurd development to change direction into something more serious.

  14. Negima. 1,2, somewhat 3, 4(shota 😀 ), 7. I dunno why they release a 2 whole seasons of fillers in anime instead of normal one. Manga had great potential but now it's too late.

And ofc there is a lot of "adult manga" like Gantz and Dance in the Vampire bund what would be much better without anime adaptation at all.

Are you saying that gag manga can't be mainstream?

Slam Dunk has just as much humor as Beelzebub, (Holy crap Slam Dunk is good I don't even)

No, I'm saying what manga, based solely on absurd and pure humorous concept can't become successor for Big 3, because such story gonna lose it' charm after some time and if mangaka turn it into something serious, then see point 1. And Slam dunk afaik had solid base about basketball club(not to mention, but sports manga is somewhat special itself) and humor just add a lot of charm to the story.

It's a shame that those three have lasted so long. They really need to die just to give others a chance.

fairy tail probably won't get as big, neither will beelzebub, I think their good but fairy tail started off to strongly, I don't think it'll outlast or outgrow those big three. and beelzebub just never gives off a fight manga vibe still. The best chapters are the funniest chapters, and I see it as much more of a comedy that has good fight moments. it works great like that.

Y'know Air gear has me thinking maybe a fantasy sport manga might have what it takes. Or basically something that uses the fighting staple but applies it somewhere else(not air gear though obviously). If not we'll have to wait till their popularity wanes enough, and maybe after naruto or bleach or both die off.

I don't know about how's it going in manga but Haki powers in One piece may make the manga unbalanced and may cause it to end in 5-6 years(plot problems)
I stopped watching bleach after they get so many damn fillers in middle of the arc but i didn't heard good things about manga.
And Naruto seems to be ending soon.
In my opinion best manga that came close to quality of these shounen series was HunterxHunter but seems like mangaka is unable to continue.
Other than that i don't think any of the currently running manga has a change to beat these 3.

Highly unlikely. The recent war has already given a preview on how New World pirates fight. It's not unbalanced enough to cause inconsistencies.

The three I think could replace these series:
Toriko, Magico (IWAMOTO Naoki) (I see potential in this one), and if I were to make a gamble, something by Komi Naoshi. Mostly because of his Oneshots, and his potential as a shounen mangaka. He made Double Arts but it had the unfortunate end with the ratings despite the humongous potential it had.

Oh god, Double Arts, I'm still pissed that it was axed. >:-( I would've loved to see Double Arts reach the popularity of Naruto/Bleach/One Piece

KHR cannot be a successor. It's popular, yes, but...it's already well established, and it...well, it got less awesome after Byakuran's arc. Most of the fans seem to be fujoshis as well...

1/2 prince can't be a successor...its novel series already finished, and the manhua is getting to the ending.

Defense Devil can't be a successor. The current plot twists have varied from cliche to wtf...

Bakuman is a pretty good manga. It's the only thing that I read in Jump when the scans come out. I read the others later...

Mangas I'd like to see be super popular like the big 3: Ao no Exorcist. Double Arts and Komi Naoshi's future works. Soul Eater.

Right now, and maybe only right now if bleach/naruto, end in a few weeks 😛 deadman wonderland may have a chance to succed one of those two.I see the breaker had some cult in the west but ... making it mainstream will be hard, same with zetman but its a shame none of those 3 seem made fore the early teens.

So rule them out ^^ in tha end.

never
monthly manga can´t overtake the big 3. not even fma could do this.
also it´s most likely that the successor is mainstream shounen

I would say D.Gray-man if it comes back with an anime. Also fairy tail, deadman wonderland and Blue Exorcist are suitable successors.

😛 in hindsight yes but... well you get the point.

but seriously now would be the best time for a space oddessy

Trekkie much? 😀 Hmm... interesting idea.

space oddessy's do better from independent like anime's then mangas from the looks of it. when it comes down to it, it's never really a main focus. it always comes down to something close to home or seemingly simple, granted there is a lot of imagination involved with it, i doubt some mangakas will go for it. it seems like something that would drain them if done in a weekly basis, plus there would be a lot they'd need to keep track of, since it's not just a world they're creating but a universe. but if a mangaka does come around with that mindset then that would undoubtedly be a true successor.

oh gosh, this brings me back to discussions on who the sucessor to Dragon Ball would have been.... oddly enough Naruto came up in that convo

*memories

personally I don't think anything running in jump right now will be the next "mainstream success", I mean I like D.Gray-Man alot more than any of the popular three, but its very dark ad its monthly riht now, so it probably wont have much of a chance.

I'd say keep your eyes open to the new jump series' within the next few years and the next "big" manga will reveal itself
