Childhood friend all the way. It's just sweet. But in case the protagonist in the manga doesn't have a childhood friend, I'd probably go for best friend or rival, because in many cases the latter are tsundere.

Rivals is best. I like the idea of people on opposite sides realizing they actually get along and eventually fall for each other. It's that sort of "love conquers all" theme that I personally believe makes the best romance in any form of entertainment, not just manga.

I really like the forbidden love between siblings. It's far more awesome than any kind of love relationship two people can share.

We need an option up there for love triangles... Oh well, I go with rival. Gotta love the love/hate dynamic.

Childhood friend. There is something to be said for the non-sleazy dedication they always have for their love interest.

it was a hard choice between best friend and rival for me. In the end i chose best friend because i has more depth and i like the personal crisis and anxiety of "I don't want to ruin what we have, but i never knew i could love them this much."

They are really similar, sides of the same coin if you will. w/ rival, you know everything you hate most about the other, but you overcome that/accept their faults to find romance. w/ BFFs you still know his/her Pros and Cons, but you know you get along. 🙂

childhood friend is too easy of a plot, you know you can spend your life w/ them, it's just realizing they are adults now. same w/ sibling, but the taboos are fun to see how they handle them. Idol and crush are basically the same, but different plot elements can be used. I guess my number 3 would be someone new(?)
