Pat Methany is one of my fave musicians ever.

P.S....And his signature Ibanez is a work of art.

I must say that The First Circle is my favorite. Probably because my school jazz band played it and we had a blast with it.

If you're looking for a bigger group, some of the new Maria Schneider stuff is pretty chill, though it may be hard to get if you're not that into jazz.

Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters
Nothing beats abit of funky laid back jazz 😎

This may be slightly off topic... but I really enjoy NuJazz or Acid Jazz, probably more than most 'real' Jazz.

St. Germain is a good example. His albums called 'Boulevard' and 'Tourist' receive regular play when I'm chillin out.

I don't really know a lot of Herbie Hancock outside of the Second Quintet. 😢

Yeah.. sometimes I can't listen to the stuff, really depends on my mood. I get the same way with Free Jazz at times..."wtf is with all the changes, AAHHH music hurt brain!!!", some of it is just too damn free ¬_¬

You're still young.... you'll probably learn to appreciate the stuff as you gain more exposure and explore more soundscapes.

Besides, all genres originated from some form of fusion or another.

^I'm referring specifically to "Jazz Fusion". I prefer Bop to all forms of jazz. And I listen to A LOT of music.

Lulz at free jazz. Ornette Coleman is really the only free jazz guy that I listen to. Cecil Taylor is a no no for me.

Pat Metheny is a great guitarist. I personally liked his Questions and Answer album. I guess the only problem with this particular album is that he doesn't comp. In fact, he doesn't play any chords whatsoever. According to my old jazz teacher, he really doesn't play straight jazz.

Some of Wes Montgomery's stuff is very laid back, like Bumpin'. And if you want laid back, you should give Cool Jazz a try. I really haven't listened to too much Cool Jazz, but I listened to a little Chet Baker. It was pretty good.

I also haven't listened to too much Jazz Fusion. I do have one Fusion album by Pat Martino (his only one) that I think is amazing and another by Allan Holdsworth, but in general, I prefer Bebop.

Bop ftw.

The only fusion I have is Bitches Brew.

Cool Jazz is alright, i guess... not really my thing.

And that's the thing I noticed about Metheny. No comping whatsoever. And I don't like his tone that much. Perfect jazz tone= Wes Montgomery or Jim Hall.

Agreed there. Jim Hall and Wes Montgomery are definitely my favorite jazz guitarists.
