Some of the english name changes are horrible. GOGO businessmen trying to appeal to the demographic.

I agree..

Battle Vixens sounds so f*cking lame I lololol

Yes...I agree. Why go through the trouble? It's not like it'll help the site or the members much...

Ok, first off, I'd like to emphasize that, as powkari_swett~uh pointed out, this site has an international user base, as you seem to be aware since you're not an american yourself. As such, I'm sure there's a lot of people who couldn't care less what the English licensed title is.

Foreign = series that names aren't translated into English.

I hate to break it to you, but anything that needs to be translated into English is by definition foreign, so I'm not really sure where you're pulling this from.

And for all of us who read scanlations years before the series is licensed in our countries, when somebody starts talking about the series using the English licensed title, if it's been a while since I read it, and haven't been paying attention to it being licensed, I have no freakin clue what they're talking about. I've had this happen on more than a few occasions.

I'd also like to point out, in response to your statement

*cano435 News flash - that's the whole point of their business. Why would they stick a foreign word in their titles?

There are plenty of series' that the English licensors left "foreign words" in the title (I can get you a list of examples if you want). More often than not, because there simply isn't a good english translation of the title. Along similar, though not strictly related lines, this is why a lot of companies leave the Japanese honorifics in the text; because there is no simple English equivalent.

That being said, if you really feel that strongly about it, stop complaining, take the advise of a previous poster, and apply for a staff position so you can make the changes.

Also, on a side note,

I'm too lazy to type and you are completely irrelevant to me so I'll ignore everything you said ...

...if you can't be bothered to read an intelligent response to your complaints, what makes you think people are actually gonna take you seriously?

We don't take applicants. All new staff are on an invitation-only basis, unless you can offer something really new that we'd want. If anyone thinks they're in that category, go ahead and pm me about it...

What's the purpose of this? I like the japanese names really 😛 It's ok if you can find the manga through both names in search right?

This isn't about "searching easily". It's more about making the page look more "official". I mean it's only right for pages to be titled under official titles.

Complain about the "crappy titles" all you want, but doesn't change the fact they are official.

If members could do this, I'd go ahead and edit all the titles myself. ;P

And I'll reply to other posts later - too lazy to type. But know this: when I said that companies don't like to stick in foreign words in titles, I never meant ALL companies did that. >_> Just talking majority kthx. Good example is my most favourite series ever. n.n

I think the only point you're really missing here is that they're not "official." While, yes, they may be official in the countries their licensed in (the US and Canada primarily), the countries where those titles are not official vastly outnumber that. Technically speaking, it makes a lot more sense to just use the original Japanese titles for everything if you're concerned about whether or not something is official, because they always will be the titles decided by the series' author. However, that's obviously a bit impractical considering the number of people who use this site and can fluently read Japanese (which I'm certain is pretty close to 0.)

I think that the titles should be left as they are, since they are largely the ones people who read scanlations are most familiar with anyway. There's not really a reason to have a mass name change to line up with a handful of company's naming tendencies.

So we should make them all into their author approved "official" names and language? Since that would be "official" as well, or how about all the other languages that are also "official" in those regions?

The titles being used for the series have official backings to them, meaning they're not made up just for the heck of it. So unless there're spelling errors or wrong titles, there's not much point in changing things to suit your sense of right and wrong.

This doesn't serve much in terms of practicality and only focus on your reasons being right and nothing else matters. There hasn't been a single post thus far that wants to support this motion. It's fair enough to say that this is a poor idea and should not be revived anytime soon. 😔

That would be nice and should be applicable tp any alias for any manga.

I totally agree with Crenshinibon about Dubby's point of view. It is that way of thinking that makes Americans unpopular with some parts of the world. Some of us by deed or word think that the world revolves around USA. Reality check... it does not and we need to understand and respect others in order to be understood and respected. Nuff said... 😐
