This slightly morbid poll comes from our member mu2020. To be honest, I'm not satisfied with the poll choices, but I didn't know what else to put there. Oh well. However, I did leave off some choices on purpose (like holding a funeral, ranting, or sending death threats to the author). Let's keep it civil.

You can discuss this open-ended poll on our forums here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=24535

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Manga E-books
Choices:
I buy them and like them - votes: 324 (3.1%)
I've bought them but don't like them - votes: 114 (1.1%)
I'm interested, but I haven't bought any yet - votes: 3614 (35.1%)
I'm not interested at all - votes: 3530 (34.3%)
What's an e-book? - votes: 2716 (26.4%)
There were 10298 total votes.
The poll ended: February 26th 2011

Hmm, e-books are not "in" for the manga community... FYI, I want a Kindle as a present.

In all cases I can recall, my favorite character is the main character, so the question is rather moot because either they would somehow revive or the manga would end at the same time.

If it's a really sad, unexpected death, I'll stop reading for a day or two and read a comedy, then hop back on track. Otherwise, I'd just keep reading. If I started moping too long,it'd rub off on the people I know.
If it were like the end of Elfen Lied, I'd shoot myself. Soooooo sad, I even cried manly tears T_T

For some reason, my favourite characters (who tend to be side/ minor protagonist) die so I'm kinda used to it (even in novels). 😛

Of course I would keep reading. My favorite characters die all the time, and it never stops me from continuing with the series, though in some cases (Trigun anime) it does make me hate the other characters and/or series.

It depends on the quality of the manga. If the manga is still interesting, I'd keep reading it. In some cases, the manga gets really bad but my fave chara's the only reason I still read it, so in those cases, I'd stop.

Still waiting to see what is up with that one guy in Conan... >_>

Rant at Author) I would keep reading it, but I would not read it quietly xD. At the very least, I would drag people on irc with me (misery friggin loves company)...

Also, I would really hope that they were given a suitably awesome sendoff. I don't think I would ever go as far as trying to contact the author, though -- even if I don't like it, even if it was a stupid, amateur mistake in the writing and they had an OOC or plain stupid death, screaming at them won't change it and the energy would be better spent reading a different, better series.

omg, death threats?! I hope it's not that usual for the mangaka world!
Honestly, sometimes characters just have to die. If it's the favourite chara, it's pretty bad luck. But it amounts to the story. So being angry, okay, ranting, fine, I'm for it, but not at the author. At least (s)he managed to created a story we liked enough to properly rant for the passing of the favourite character. If we wouldn't care a bit, it wouldn't move us.
So shouldn't we thank the author instead of cursing him? (But hey, I understand it if the only decent character died. But then again I wouldn't care enough then to be annoying)

I stop reading Bleach after Ichimaru Gin died. Besides him, none of my favorite characters from other manga/anime died. Gin is special, though. He's not only my favorite in Bleach, but also my all time favorite in overall manga/anime. So his death really hit me hard.

Well, I continue on anyway to see how the mangaka do terrible job with my fav character gone.

On the honest side, I read anyway because I have nothing else to read.
I am more sad if I can't read than dropping a manga solely because a character is gone unless the story is ruined because the death of that character.

Lambchopsil, you should defo get a kindle. I was against ebooks until my parents bought me one for x-mas, now I love them. I still prefer hard copies, but in my current situation a kindle is perfect since it ishard to get English books in rural Japan and my flat has very little space, plus it is expensive to ship books. he kindle is great, it is so easy to read, it is really light and if you get a cover (which you should because it scratches easily), it has a little reading light aswell!!! In short, it is awesome!

The Kindle is a good choice.
