IRC.

I went from p2p (eMule), to the manga hosting sites, to the group's sites if it wasn't available in the former (and they provided http) then onto IRC. IRC is the one where I have gotten the most from, probably 90% of 300GB is off IRC. I don't like torrents as they don't last long, so I tend to share rare files on better p2ps like eMule, and IRC is one of the better places for getting difficult to find manga.

Reason I used IRC last is because command programs are intimidating and the text screen is not something i was keen on first time I saw it. Thought it was very user un-friendly, and only dabbled in it when I really needed to find manga that I couldn't get off sites. Rules on channels tend to be similar, and commands are pretty much standard, so it's not hard when joining a new channel, but it certainly would be easier if there was a WYSIWYG interface.

For the most part I don't trust mangahosts, especially if it relies on members uploading them and they don't read the rules. Files end up poor named, missing pages, missing possible fixes, missing out on higher quality scans, not to mention that your often limited in accessing them (one/two at a time) so going directly to the source is quicker and better.

IRC for me, nothing beats #lurk...I do use evil-empire just so I can download other manga simultaneously and scanslators site if evil-empire doesn't have a copy but mostly IRC since sometimes ddl's are slow or I find it troublesome to register and post XX number of times...and manga is too small for torrent unless it was the entire series...I only use torrents for anime and nothing else

Wow, thanks for using my suggestion for the poll...very cool. XD I've always been curious as to how many people actually go to the webbies.^^

Anyway, I use IRC. Mostly because that's what I've been used to. Long ago when there weren't this many scanlation groups yet, when mediafire, divshare, and megaupload haven't existed yet, old groups like Mangaproject and ShoujoMagic mostly relied on IRC downloads and never had http at all, so I was really forced to learn it. IRC just looks intimidating at first, but when you actually read a simple tutorial it's not that hard to get the hang of. ^^

First i go to the scanlation site...if there aren't any visible http links i go to their irc channel. If i can't find it there, i check #lurk... if i have no luck there either i go to a hosting website. But i usually use IRC for 60-70% of my downloads.

I go to the scanlation group's website. I have used IRC I think I should probably use it more often. I dislike manga hosting sites something about them bothers me. All of the junk of those sites get in the way like the ads and the because of the layout I can't see the whole page. I would buy more manga if I had the money to do that. I only buy the manga I really like, that is difficult to find, or if scanlation for it has stoped.

I use whatever means necessary... right now I am downloading via torrent, manga hosting site, scanlator website and scanlator irc channel... I only don't buy it because if I wanted the ones I am reading I would need to fetch them in another town... and also their translations suck!

Results are out! (Check the news page or the first post of this thread)

With manga hosting sites as the winner, I'd say that NarutoFan is making some good money, StopTazmo is still around and strong, places like mangatrader and mangahelpers are popular...

Quote from xObscurexOmenx

I mostly rely on direct downloads from the scanlation group's website, but I have gotten a lot from IRC... Too bad I had to delete mIRC, though; it was killing my computer. ._.; I would use torrents, too, but I can't find 'em as often as I do direct downloads.

this is something new i heard of...IRC is bad for the computer? o.o

but i mainly use irc, since it means less clicks with the mouse =D
