Few good moments the 66 vice captain (can't remember name), but what the heck is up with Ikkaku

I'm guessing Kubo wants characters who haven't shown their faces yet to get a shot at the spotlight. And since Ikkaku has shown everything he's got (ie. his bankai and whatnot), it's someone else's turn to kick ass and take names. Ikkaku losing to a fraccion is a big WTF though.

EDIT: Ikkaku's knocked out (if not dead), so if Yumichika did achieve a Ban-Kai (as hinted by Ikkaku) which happened to kidou based, no one in his division would know if he decided to use it against Ikkaku's opponent.

It's sad to see Ikkaku like that, I had thought of him to be the strongest of the four liutenants there.

It's gonna be sad if Ikkaku died, but him dying would benefit the manga.

Errr, I don't want to see Ikkaku dead cause he's one of the funny guy who believes that he can go a long way with brute strength, just like zaraki. I'm still wondering if Ikkaku used his bankai, maybe not and i hope not. I would be kinda disappointed if he was defeated with him using a bankai.

Well as to Hisagi, his face is really scary and a real badass when he said he is scared. Shouldn't his opponent be saying those words. All this while i was thinking that Hisagi is a gentle soul but looking at that expression made me look him in a whole new light. Actually same goes for Kira. Tite at least is back at surprising us. Whew, what an amazing shikai though.

Anyone want to bet Ikkaku got beaten because he refused to go bankai in front of so many people? He's a stubborn guy and sure as heck doesn't want to be forced out from under Ken-chan and into a Captain's position.

Question did Hisagi finish off his Arrancar or did the tower getting destroyed distract him before he finished it off?

O man, Ikkaku is my boy! How'd he lose? probably because he refused to use his bankai. Isn't it sad to know that the universe might be destroyed because someone is to caught up with their own personal goal/limitations.

Tite wants to make the last battle
seem somehow more exciting by
demonstrating that with a cliffhanger
where you can see Ikkaku lying flat on his face.

Besides, it's only one pillar... Maybe foreshadowing
that the remaining 3 espada will destroy the other 3?

not saying the others will fall but it took all 4 pillars to keep the fake karukara town up so im guessing that by smashing one pillar the illusion will fall

Not really. It's nowhere implied in this chapter that by breaking one pillar the illusion will fall. I'm guessing the four pillars will inevitably all break, in order for the plot to move.

its not implied but it took 4 pillars to put up the illusion so if you break one of them the illusion should be destroyed if not why not have just everyone protecting one pillar

Very nice end to this chapter. Ikkaku definitely wasn't the one we expected to lose, then again thinking about it now, Kubo pretty much had to do it that way. The story would get boring and predictable if all the shinigami won their fights. Since Ikkaku's already had his moments, he had to be the one to fall. He won't be dead. Whether he gets back up and finishes his fight, or Yumichika and the others rush to help I'm not so sure.

It'll be interesting to see what the pillar's destruction will result in. I seriously doubt the whole thing would crumble with just one. Perhaps in destroying one, a fourth of the illusion will fall. If not, it doesn't seem like too significant a development. Perhaps all four will fall.

As for Hisagi, his zanpakuto was a little disappointing in use. I was hoping for some cool ability. it still looks cool, and he himself was definitely cool during that fight. It doesn't look like it was concluded though.
