New Poll - Anime Cartoons

This new poll was suggested by our member tactics. I guess the custom of calling anime "cartoons" is more prevalent in the US, but it also depends on the area you live in. Like for me, I live in a predominately Asian neighborhood, and we all "know" the difference between anime and Saturday morning cartoons. (And just to say this, but nowadays, the Saturday morning cartoons aren't that great. Remember the good old days? And it was only like 5 years ago...)

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Do you read any other comics / graphic novels outside of manga?
Choices:
Manhwa and manhua... - votes: 5403 (45.2%)
Yes, I love them all - votes: 2785 (23.3%)
Only pure manga for me - votes: 1644 (13.7%)
Some strips in the funny pages (newspaper) or web comics - votes: 1613 (13.5%)
The American stuff - votes: 516 (4.3%)
There were 11961 total votes.
The poll ended: November 28th 2009
Not too many people read the American stuff. Which is sad, since some of that superhero stuff is good too.

Not really but if they say it offensively then sure.
Also the original meaning of cartoon is fine art 😮

Same here-only when it's said in a derisive "cartoons are for kids" way, but I get huffy anytime someone takes that attitude towards any country's cartoons.
As for the previous poll, I take "all of the above" to include the American, as well as the rest of the globe's, stuff.

Almost every time I hear the word cartoon and anime in the same sentence it's used as a way to put it down. Even if they are cartoons the way a word is used can easily warp it's meaning.

no not really, I generally just refer to things as animated shows anime or cartoons.

It infuriates me. In the United States it almost is always an insult, because cartoons are generally considered childish and for kids. You don't hear people calling Family Guy a cartoon. Anime is not cartoons!

Wow, that's bullshit. I don't think I know a single person who'd deny that Family Guy is a cartoon.
Anime's basically Japanese cartoons, and yet 40% of the people here are angered over it? Riduculous.

Yeah, personally I'd be more infuriated by the simple fact that Americans only seem to be be able to produce an animated series suitable for adults if it has 'adult' content as in the case of The Family Guy. Personally I think that The Family Guy is more childish than most cartoons made for kids just that it's the sort of childishness that's only suitable for adults.

I was under impression with the way that they keep switching comicbook writers and letting them do their own interpretation of a character that superhero comics were for the most part a way to write fanfiction and get paid for it.
Now I'm sure that there are some good comicbook writers out there, but I'm not going to bother finding them and getting interested in a character only to have them switch to an author who has a totally different take the character. It just makes the characters look schizophrenic.

Anime is the same as cartoons, just from another country with a different style. If you are offended by it then it is because you think anime is some super secret non mainstream thing that makes you special or you you dislike being associated with what you consider childish.
"Saturday morning cartoons aren't that great." I would rather watch He-Man than a fair few anime. I have not watched anime in a little while but people need to accept; it is mainstream now and it is a cartoon (animated).
