I've just started listening to Indie music.
So far, DCFC, The Postal Service and I heart the Stars' Heart.
Any recommendations?

Tullycraft are pretty fun. The Cat's miaow are the best. The Pines are lovely. Black Tambourine are super. St. Christopher may be a bitter rod stewart look-a-like but he's just unfuckablewith. But yeah, Gediminas is right. The word indie has no meaning these days and it will probably remain that way for ever. I also would like to add, is it really the labels that indiependent refers to? I always took it as the artists themselves were independent of the recording industry, even those independent labels which sometimes released them. Maybe that was just back in the day.
These times 😔
Do you know what people did in the old days when they had secrets they didn't want to share?
They'd climb a mountain, find a tree, carve a hole in it, whisper the secret into the hole and cover it up with mud. That way, nobody else would ever learn the secret...

I always cringe when I see some of these international bands labeled as Indie while bands that sound, feel, and act like indie bands are derided for signing with major labels. For example, Arctic Monkeys seem to be popular here and they might be distributed by an independent label in America, but they're as mainstream as it comes in England.
On the other hand, there are a lot (well, a few) bands out there have are either currently signed with a major label, or have been sometime in the past, that definitely fit the indie billing more.
I mean, no one is gonna claim that Arctic Monkeys are indie while Sonic Youth isn't, and Sonic Youth have been under a major label for more than 1.5 decades.
Anyway, that was just my little rant on why I hate the indie label.
Here are some of the bands I like that I THINK are still indie, although I could be wrong. I don't really pay attention to label changes and most of these are some of the better known indie bands.
Sufjan Stevens
Beirut
Devotchka
Burial
The Flaming Lips
TV on the Radio
Cat Power
Magnetic Fields
Andrew Bird
Radiohead (Prob major, but every indie kid loves them anyway so whatever)
Actually, I'm almost positive that at least one of these have switched to a major label (Andrew Bird?) but you all should still check them out. I know someone said they liked Beirut - they should definately like Sufjan Stevens and Devotchka.
Also, check out Cat Power doing a cover of Oasis' Wonderwall. One of the few covers that are better than the original, imo:

It's down right heart-wrenching, especially if you know how screwed up her life has been.

I have to agree with Gediminas and Shade. In my opinion, the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys are far from indie. And far from good.
I don't even like the term. Or has it become a genre now? Indie pretty much describes every band that isn't signed onto a major label like Sony or EMI.
The majority of music I listen to, would probably be describes as indie, though I've never used the term to describe bands such as... God Is An Astronaut (electronic/post-rock/ambient), or Plaid (IDM/electronic/ambient). I simply just don't like the word whatsoever.
Most 'indie' music I listen to is not so much indie as alternative pop/rock. Indie music has become a false moniker. I neither care for the term nor believe that I listen to much Indie music. I've associated Indie music and those championing it [while they also scorn a band when they no longer fit the profile] as Hipsters. As interesting as Hipster culture can be [purely from a separated observer; not interested in becoming one of them], I really disagree with its self-denial of shallow rampant consumerism; spending large sums of money in an attempt to look poor and a vehement denial of the term (many of them believe the term offensive because even they realize that the term describes a hollow pretentious sub-culture).
Ah, sorry for venting.
Some ‘alternative’ pop/rock/electronic music I listen to (from the top of my head):
Crystal Castles
Metric (Emily Haines)
Beirut
Caribou
Sufjan Stevens
Arcade Fire
MSTRKRFT
Digitalism
Miracle Fortress
Final Fantasy
Of Montreal
Malajube
Broken Social Scene
Stars --- not so much anymore, I find the lead singer whiny and overdramatic
Portishead
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I don’t know if even half of these bands fit the label of ‘indie’
Can you imagine an imaginary menagerie manager imagining managing an imaginary menagerie?

Bon Iver, Two Gallants, and Portugal. The Man are my current favorite indie musicians. Along with Priscilla Ahn and Josh Radin, but not as much.
