Hmmm... I can think of three reasons for me, none of which are up above:

1. I'm looking for a real guy.
   All the otaku I know are horribly cynical (to the point where even I'm turned off) or rather wishy-washy. It'd be nice if you had some, you know, things in life other than anime. Though I guess that'd defeat the whole "otaku" point. XD Umm... go out and run or play DDR a lot, try some showers (I know that's hard for guys in general, but trust me, it helps 8D), start thinking about college, maybe a job. Have another point to your life other than anime, that's all I'm saying. It makes you, you know, accessible.

2. I'm looking for someone I can get along with.
   Honestly, on the outside, some otaku are the prickliest men I've met on the planet. Some boast about their collections of figurines, others don't seem to know how to stop sounding like they're challenging or attacking the person talking to them, others cannot seem to understand that not everyone is more or less intelligent than they are. Get a social life (which ties back up to number one) and a crash course in self-esteem and then we'll talk.

Seriously. Social life isn't that hard. Get a group of people you know and set up some SSBM or Mariokart. Boom. Social life.

3. I'm looking for Lavi Bookman/Kiba Inuzuka/Momiji Souma/Takeshi Yamamoto/Hayato Gokudera/Renji Abarai/Eiji Kikumaru/etc...
   Not that I'm looking for a perfect carbon copy of one of these boys (if I did find one, though, I think I'd faint of joy), it's just that the otaku in question may not be my type. Flaws are okay; a personality that makes me want to strangle you isn't. For example, I don't go for the arrogant, cool bastard or shy and quiet types at all, but playfully narcissistic and charming AND/OR boyish and energetic with a lot of loyalty, and attractive to boot... well, that's a different story. I like a guy with a bit of confidence, like I said. ^^ There isn't one formula to get all girls to like you - you're got a set of guidelines and a toothbrush, and most of the research (read: getting to know the girl, NOT stalking her - yes, this means you will have to talk to her sometime) you'll use for one specific girl only. It makes us feel loved if you specialize. (Note, though, that confidence when it counts and a good showering schedule aaaaalways helps)

... But seriously, if any of you guys are exactly like one of the boys mentioned above, contact me. 8D I'd like to be friends!

Thano does point out all the problems. Thanks for putting it into words. I feel exactly the same. Actually, maybe even more picky. I wouldn't expect a carbon copy but I don't think I'd want a boyfriend that isn't like the anime or manga characters I like. However, I do want a guy who loves anime, manga, and stuff liek that, too, but to find someone who lieks it a lot like me is super hard to find. Since I am picky on looks, too. I love Tezuka from Prince of Tennis, Aram from Meru Puri, Zero from Vampire Knight, especially Hanazawa Rui, and a few others. I also feel the same as Thano. If you're a guy like that, please feel free to contact me 😀 .

Damnit! i start reading this topic, 10 pages go by and stuff it, i'm not reading the rest.

Everyone. Otaku is not a word for your normal anime/manga fan. Otakus are seriously engrossed almost all the time. It is an insult in japan as far as i know.

Let's not mould the word into our own meaning.

If anime/manga takes less than 4 hours of day every day, you're probably not an otaku.
