Novels that read like Shoujo manga

As titled in the post, I'm looking for novels that read like a shoujo manga. And by that, I mean something you've read, which gives you the feeling that you're reading a shoujo manga.
A terrible, but good example would be Twilight.
It could be the romance between the two leads. Nothing like the quarterback plus the head cheerleader though. Nothing overly-cliche, please. I welcome any type of plot/story though, minus science fiction, however.
It would be very nice if the characters had distinctive personalities, though a stereotype here or there is okay as well since I find them unavoidable. It's a bit hard to truly make a character your own without adding common characteristics to them.
If anyone can recommend me a good romance novel containing the above, then I would really appreciate it. I dislike Nora Robert's works by the way, as well as Stephanie M-something of Twilight. 🙄
Oh, and though it isn't very shoujo-ish in terms of content, I found the Vampire Academy series to be quite manga-esque. I could easily imagine the characters through their descriptions, which lead to seeing manga/anime versions of them in my mind. I adored the series, but I'm not asking for another vampire-romance. 😀
Just something...normal I guess.

Well the first that jumps to my mind is 'Kamikaze Girls', which is what the manga (Kamikaze Girls) is based on?

Kitchen by Yoshimoto Banana, her style reminds me so much to Ooshima Yumiko's manga.

I know it's an old topic... I was going to add a similar one, but I'll reply here instead...
Have you read the Nightrunner series? These novels would make a perfect BL manga. The characters are great, and there's also adventure, magic, fighting and villains plotting 🙂 I'm no big fan of BL, but I loved these books.
Here are some illustrations to the Japanese edition.

Gasps I you sound like me
ew, twilight is lame
but, Vampire Academy is AMAZING
I HIGHLY recommend Sarah Dessen books-ESPECIALLY "The Truth About Forever" Definitely a novel that reads like a shoujo. JUST the right amount of fluff without being tacky, and definitely moving.
hmm...The Darkest Powers series is also VERY VERY good!! It definitely reads like a manga...

City of Bones is the only thing I can this off; though I wouldn't recomend it as it reads like a bad shoujo. I swear. Main guy is an ass, girl is useless, character develoment is nonexsistent, and the BL floating around. Ugg... But your not here to hear me rant about the slur of bad teen fiction so I'll be off! lol

You might like Sarah Rees Brennan's The Demon's Lexicon. She is brilliant. 😀 And the second book in the series just came out two days ago.....
Also, if you read her blog, she'll recommend lots more. http://sarahtales.livejournal.com/

Will no one scanlate Takahashi Miyuki?! T_T

It reads just like a high school, slice of life, romance shoujo manga. It's very cute and even has a "bed scene" like those ridiculous ones Sano and Mizuki get into in Hana Kimi.

Actually, this is a strong point.
Yoshimoto Banana writes fluff in a very distinctly shoujo mode... she's very clearly influenced by growing up during the initial shoujo manga boom. I have no idea why she seems to think she deserves a Nobel, her writing is almost universally shallow and occasionally quite vapid. Definitely not literary material.
That said, she's fine as pulp... I only get irritated when she tries to market herself as a serious writer... that's just my personal opinion though. She should appeal to shoujo readers, and has a number of novels published in English these days.

I'll revive the topic again 🙂
I've just read the Rai-Kirah trilogy by Carol Berg and I realised that when I try to imagine the characters from this book I see them drawn in a manga style (Kaori Yuki's artwork 🙂 ).
The first book is about how the main characters - Seyonne and Aleksander met.
Aleksander is an arrogant and impulsive, but intelligent and charismatic prince, and Seyonne is his slave. Seyonne has been a slave for 16 years and during that time he suffered a lot and lost all hope. But soon it turns out that someone is making some evil plans involving Aleksander, and Seyonne - who was once a very powerful warrior - is the only person who can thwart them.
(sorry, I'm not good at writing descriptions of books 🙂 )
I recommend these books to all people who like stories about fighting and magic. And I should mention that there are also bishies (if characters from a book can be bishies) and a master-servant relationship that all shounen-ai fans will love (although there's no BL in these books at all).
