I'm gonna go with fourth just cuz of how amazing the SNES was and how many awesome games it had.

I have to say the new generation is where its at. Especially most recently. The past two generations respectively have pretty much transformed gaming forever with online gameplay. The Wii is well...just about the most original console to ever be released. Though that said the X Box 360 and PS3 really arent that amazing...just powered up versions of older systems for the most part, though I guess the PS3 does have some motion sensing involved. I also failed to mention the ease at porting games to these new platforms since they now run more like computers than ever before, it makes taking old classics and putting them on your console a real possibility and Nintendo and Microsoft both have taken advantage of this.

So basically internet + motion sensing + ported classics = 7th generation FTW.

As it is for all things, in the realm of video game generations, the fourth was the best of all.

That's when things really started to gain some popularity around here, and at that point they were becoming technically competent, with graphics beginning to actually, look like something, all sorts of cool new game types popping up, and so on and so forth. Plus, the SNES has to be the greatest console, nay, greatest electronic device, nay, greatest invention, of all time.

The 4th generation! I am a huge SNES fan and the games and nostalgia trump everything since. My friend was the one with Genesis so I ended up liking Sonic back then too.

I would like to add that the current generation of handheld systems is the best. The DS was what basically got me back into gaming after a few years of not playing many games.

I voted for 4th gen, cuz I was born during it. 🤣
but...
SNES was my first game console so basically SNES+SMW=Childhood. 😉

I saw a documentary on Japan, and evidently the DS is used there for everything from browsing the web on the Shinkansen to listening to a description of a painting in a museum, but I digress.

I also think that the current generation is the best for handheld games, since Nintendo no longer holds the monopoly over handheld games.

As for console generations, I'm going to go with sixth generation since this was when I actually paid any attention to the gaming world and there were multiple consoles that compete with each other, thus making everything better in general. I agree with others though about the sheer awesomeness that is the SNES.

6th generation, even though I had (or still have) most of the listed consoles, the one I enjoyed playing on most was PS2, I got it when it came out and Im still playing on it 😀

Now they've only the monopoly over the good ones.

An exaggeration, I guess. I know it's a bit off topic, but I felt I had to comment that, the DS and PSP are really too different for me to consider competitors. I mean, the DS has a bunch of great games, that work well in hand-held formats. The PSP... has a bunch of games that look like they'd be good... if they weren't stuck on a handheld...

But I digress.

A note on the topic at hand: I could have sworn the current generation was actually the eighth... Are we sure we haven't missed one? Maybe I'll bother to look it up.
