I think that Ippo is one of the best mangas I have ever read, from all genres, and I really want something which I can get caught up in again.
It can either be a sports or fighting manga, with lots of tournaments or matches etc.....which basically starts from the beginning of the persons journey in that field and with loads of effort, hardwork and talent, he/she gets better and better and works their way up to the top....the manga should be long or at least a decent length, and preferably complete or at least with plenty of chapters released.

I think you just described every sports/fighting manga in existance.. Uhh some of the more popular ones.. Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, HSDK, Eyeshield 21, KHR, HxH, Psyren, Fairy Tail, the Captain Tsubasa series, and PoT. There are so much more... Also I recommend Ares.. He hasn't really gotten stroner in the 135 chapters that are out.. But he is real strong and there are fights throughout it.

I have to recommende Histories Strongest Disciple Kenichi its a lot of fun

well your list isn't public so i don't know what you've read.....but since ippo's my fav. manga i should know what you're looking for too, so how about...

Slam Dunk - has a similar sense of humor and cast (delinquents)...about a guy who pursues highschool basketball
Beck - alot like ippo, except it's about a boy in a band, it's character and story progression are alot like HNI
Nana - think Beck for women.....better in my opinion though
Vagabond - a young man growing up and through life as a samurai
Holyland - alot like ippo, but darker i guess......a boy who used to get bullied takes up boxing to get stronger and fight back
Worst - dilenquent fighting manga
Angel Densetsu - similar cast, and since of humor...and main character doesn' realise how strong really is like ippo
Gantz - weak kid turns strong
Kiseijuu - weak kid turns strong
XBlade - reasonably strog kid getting stronger
Ciguatera - about who gets bullied liked ippo....doesn't revolve around fighting, but....it is hilarious, this ones a longshot though, but you might enjoy it

and like everyone else said, Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi about as close as you can get.....fighting, weak guy grows strong, humor, cast...has it all, even some boxing

also these, but only a few chapters have been released....

I guess I was a bit too broad in my requirements.....to narrow it down a bit, id also like comedy, and hopefully tournaments etc. going to world level.
I'm having a look at the eyeshield 21 anime right now, and im really enjoying it, though I feel its a bit young for me (im 19) but good nevertheless.
I'll try Kenichi and Ares after that since there have been such strong reccomendations.
I'm already reading Naruto, Bleach and Beck, and I'll have a look at the rest.
