Sorry if you find the title here offensive but here recently I seem to find a huge amount of shoujo being the majority of mange released. I may be imagining things but I was wondering if there might be a reason for this.

I also find that there is alot of shoujo manga being released, but more shocking to me is that there is also an increase of yaoi manga as well

Yeah theres heaps of yaoi ~ maybe theres heaps of demand of that kind of genre in japan 🤣
Hm I read some of the other threads in the shojo section that even though most shojo manga is cliched people still read it despite most of the story lines being similiar. Well like before, if people demand it then mangaka will continue to write it -> and it comes to mangaupdates so maybe thats why? ^^

Possibly a growing female population? Idk I like shojo just fine so I'm not particularly worried by this.

Because as long as there's girls around there'll be shoujo lovers, and as long as there's shoujo lovers there's the need for more manga so there's more choice to read 🙂

Females are taking over the world, face it >.<''
...actually it's more a matter of length because not too many shoujos get over 5, maximum 10 volumes (there are many exceptions, but remember I'm generalizing here), while shounen series tend to draag and draaag and end up at a minimum of 20 volumes. So that's why it might seem like more series, but it's actually the same quantity in number of chapters. If you mean individual chapters of shoujo being released a lot, it's probably because of the appearance of more girl translators.
Scratch that, I guess it's just coincidence...

Well, like Heaven said before it's probably a length issue, although some long-running shonen are going to wrapping up pretty soon and there are plenty of completed titles out there. Also most translators actually find it easier to translate shojo manga b/c of the simplicity of the stories and the words they use.
I don't have a problem w/ shojo and find some of them quite interesting so, meh.

I always thought that there was more yaoi being released than anything. I rarely see any shonen manga being released. =/

If you look at it, Yaoi manga exceeds Yuri manga count. The same is happening with shoujo category.
Even if you disagree, almost 60% of manga readers/fanatics are composed of girls, primarily. There are only few Otaku guys who engages themselves into reading manga.
Aside from it, most mangakas are also girls, hence, I also believe it is easier to draw shoujo manga than shounen, since shounen MUST have a great built-up story to impress guys.

I suppose that explains alot, to be perfectly honest I have always been in the minority as a guy with an avid love for reading and such.

Where do you guys get there is a lot of yaoi being released? Today (so far) and yesterday, there was only one release. On the 28th there was 4 with one being a DJ and on the 27th there was only 3 (out of 50!) There are about 4 yaoi releases a day out of around 30. There have been one or two groups that have had an anniversary so they put out a few more release, but for the most part, there has been just a trickle of yaoi.
I do agree on there being a lot of shoujo releases recently and about a few months ago, I kept stumbling on quite a bit of hentai. From the looks of it, the number of genre releases come in pulses. I'm guessing an increase of yaoi is coming in the next few months. The last time there was a flood of yaoi releases, it was later in the year because the anniversary of several groups were close together.
