Designer Babies.
Quote from GreenToes
Think about this : The child is still YOURS. The child is merely the best of you and your spouse.
It isn't as simple as that. Parents who love their kids love their kids the way they are. There's just no reason for them to go altering the child to be perfect. Most people prefer normal, because it is safe and sufficient. Plus, the less glamorous traits of you are also a part of you. Weeding out those traits takes a part of you away. They're normal parts. While there's nothing morally wrong with it to me, why should you try to weed out anything that doesn't undermine the child's future.

There are going to be individuals born who are going to have no chance at a normal life (as defined by society) and are going to require 24/7 care for the rest of their lives; in the worst case designer babies will be perverted into a social symbol but assuming that it isn't, could it not be seen as a way of liberating families from a life long duty as carers.
Isn't it our duties to improve life if and when we can?
The argument that humans can't be trusted with such a power still stands and that is what has left me on the fence.
