It's a short range motion sensor I think. Besically, it's installed where the flushing handle should be and it detects if you stood up or not.

the urinals and toliets on my campus just got special flusher things so that say "push up for liquid waste and push down for solid waste"

great idea for saving water, but why is there the option for solid waste in the urinal?? 😕

@ridethewalrus- i do the same thing with my feet w/o thinking, catch door light switches, it definately gets some off looks from ppl

Basically it flushes / turns on the sink for you without you having to touch anything. It detects the proximity of body heat and acts automatically.

Just watch the urinals, if you're on the edge of the sensor zone those things will flush while you're still pissing.
