As tabletops: Shadowrun (4.01D), DSA, Warhammer 40k
I think that a pen&paper adventure is a hell more fun than a linear rpg.
It requires much more imagination and initiative. And with a good master (game-leader(?)), any usual rescue-the-princess-mission can be fun.
I would love to try Shadowrun. Never had any opportunity though.
RPG and first person shooters are the best. Even if most of the violence is questionable, there are actions you've got to take that aren't only based on dispatching the enemy. Very often, the role-playing part of the game isn't expanded enough. I wish they would be more Deus Ex-like games.

I think maybe I should go through all of the games I've bought in... the last year or so and see how many are RPG's. I'm willing to bet at least 75%.

I've been playing RPGs for years now. I just like playing them, because they're interactive and usually have good stories/characters.
Some series I usually don't miss out on are:
Mana series (like Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore)
Suikoden series.
Final Fantasy series.
In fact, Suikoden Tierkreis, which is coming out next year, was the main reason for me getting a Nintendo DS.

I've been an avid D&D 3E/3.5E player(and currently a DM) ever since 2000. I don't really care for the newest 4th edition of D&D.
I also play many j-rpgs and the forgotten realms rpgs.

Nai, except for the suikoden series I abhor them (both on consoles, computers and on tables). I like puzzle games, I like games where you blow up stuff in 2D (Metal Slug, shooters and such), I like trackmania and that's it. I like quirky games mostly. Oh rly frgt about rythm games, a necessity for succesful living... But those disgaea-related games I love, not for the gameplay mainly because they are effing hilare!
Do you know what people did in the old days when they had secrets they didn't want to share?
They'd climb a mountain, find a tree, carve a hole in it, whisper the secret into the hole and cover it up with mud. That way, nobody else would ever learn the secret...

once a friend forced me to join to his damn role playing game which was totally out of my interests field (it was a mafia based game) and since I had some feelings for that guy I agreed to join (yeah, I was an shy girl in love! 🤣 ) . damn, what kind of fucking idiot would do that? 🤨
I was totally naive and couldn't understand the concept of the game at first. naturally other players got irritated and were picking on me. 😐 the result was a complete failure: my hatred toward role playing games! 😔
even now I cant bring myself to play these games, they make me bang my head against the wall, remembering all the bad memories (including my broken heart! 😛 ) . I know I am not reasonable but I cant stop this feeling. I hate role playing games.... at the end nothing can work better than manga for me, haha. 🤨

Well there are different types of RPGs you know.
Most people in this thread are talking about console based RPGs video games played entirely alone rather than anything done in a group.

RPG is my favorite genre of video games. I like game where i can explore and fight. Like the game...Kingdom Hearts, or Okami. Action-RPG's are the best. =D

well, I never have played RPG video games, the only role playing games that I know are the ones that we were playing in online sites along with huge group of other players and we had to try creating a world and following the story line through writing big posts, lol, once just for killing 5 mafia men I had to write over 4000 words. 🤢 man, still remembering it worn me out. 🤣

Okami is as much an RPG as Bioshock. I think it's pretty inaccurate to consider it such, to be honest.
