I was going to say Psychonauts, initially, but since that is well-defended...

Ogre Battle is my next choice. Tactics Ogre as well. Far too underrated, especially considering how superior they are.

A few others that are definitely worth mentioning are underrated simply because they weren't officially translated into English. These being CyberKnight I-II, Treasure of the Rudras, and Terranigma (all for the Snes, coincidentally).

On Okami, I do not see how it is underrated. If anything, it is overrated. I picked it up because all the praise and I found it not all that great, aside from visual effects (and if I judged solely with those, I'd be nothing but an idiot). Though, in its defense, its mediocrity is still a neck-above alot that has been released lately.

hmmm

This would be a long list....

Quite a lot of nes games are unknown to the new generation and I can't help but feel sad... not to mention I was lurking around game faqs of a few nes games and they lack quite a lot of tricks and special stuff...

Snes games are also majorly overlooked... Illusion of Gaia, Lufia 1 and 2, FF Mystic Quest and a LOT more

Of PSone there is also a huge number of overlooked titles... meh

If I have to stick with one, I would say Zanac in the nes... If you manage to get an original copy then you are a LUCKY BASTARD... just like me

http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Zanac

http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Zanac/Secrets_and_tricks

All of them are in there... but they are missing something important... but I guess that was never a trick, but more like a Crack

This game has a very interesting issue... the more enemies you kill (aka the better you play) the harder it gets, and for those that know Ikaruga... well this game beats Ikaruga when you talk about the amount of crap that the enemies shoot at you (and you have to worry about the enemies themselves), of course that only happens if you manage to beat enough enemies to get a ridiculous score without getting a game over...

In Normal Situations when you start to play the game you being in Area 1, and you have to fight in a measly 12 levels challenge... with for the good gamer is quite easy to do... now here is where it gets interesting... you need to place the Game in your Nintendo in a way that it will load the game, but might crack (Nes owners know what I am talking about) now with the game showing Area 1 (yeah this game doesn't have any Intro... is OLD) press reset about 10 or 20 times and do it FAST, if you had bad luck it will Load Area 1, but If you did it well It will load other random areas... and here is where it gets more interesting... you can start in Area 87, Area 21, Area 15, Area 5, Area 0, Area anything... but remember I said the game will end with 12 measly scenarios right? well not anymore... Lets say you start in Area 92, and manage to get your way to Area 99, after that one is Area 0 and After that one comes Area 1 (and you can beat the game with more score) The Areas are the same, Weapons appear in exactly the same way regardless the score you have, however the enemy's on screen grow to absurd levels the more you play and when you start in area 13 is IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT THE GAME... some parts of some areas have a "Fixed" enemy that is going to appear without matter what you do, however the enemies that appear based on how good of a player you are will also be there, with is why I had to press Pause Every 3 seconds just to find a way to dodge the attacks (I WAS A FREAK WITH THIS GAME)

My weapon of Choice and probably the best weapon when you use this crack (because the absurd and sheer number of enemies will be overwhelming not to mention that they are also stronger and hold more fire) is the 4, with it You don't have to worry about 1/3 of the screen and is going to become your safe heaven when things turn fugly, but you mustn't rely solely on it or you are fated to die before the first 60 seconds run out.

Sadly this method doesn't work on roms (bah) so if you want to know if what I am saying is true you have to actually own a game and a nintendo

I guess that is enough for the night...

EDIT: What the hell... I am going to join them and post in their forums... this game should be the BEST NES GAME EVER so I have to post this in there

PS: With Areas being always the same, I mean that Area 0 will always be GRAY, and the weapons will always be in the same place... the same applies to the other areas, but they are Forest, Sea, Desert, Space like scenarios as well

Polite bump.

Gah, I've realized that I only play popular games. If I had to pick one, then it'd be Dino Crisis 2 (this game out of my childhood). It was a pretty amusing game and entertaining to boot, to the young me of back then. 😮

Omega Boost!

It either needs to show up for download on Wii, 360, or PS3. A sequel would be cool to. Hey, even a re-release for anything but DS would be good.

Also, Scurge: Hive for the GBA and DS, it was set up for a sequel, it was damn fun to.

Phantom Dust, it's was only twenty bucks brand new and one of the best original online Xbox games. Too bad it didn't get much media attention.

So true. I had fights with my brother over that game.

Some of the combat stuff was iffy, where it got to the point that I often felt I was simply button mashing my way to victory, but the bosses were good enough to redeem that. The drawing mechanics were wonderful on the wii, the story was fun to play, the world was full and vibrant (that's a jab at the rather empty twilight princess). The dungeons also lacked a certain amount of complexity, but that's in comparison to some of the more amazing dungeons in The Legend of Zelda. Altogether, I'd say the overland was good enough to make up for the dungeon crawling. On par with Twilight Princess and deserving of its praise (There are much more overrated games that score better, especially since reviewers have been adding free points to hyped games scores to avoid angering fan boys lately, it seems)

Lufia II - Rise of Sinistrals
Star Ocean 1 & 2
Indy and the Fate of Atlantis

I rarely heard people talking about them, but they are marvelous imho.

Some video games I'm certain fits into this topic are:

Gitaroo Man
Psychonauts
Okami
Beyond Good or Evil
Wild 9

Well, that's all I could think of at the moment.

Psychonauts = 86-88 Metacritic
Okami 90-93 Metacritic
Beyond Good and Evil = 86-87 Metacritic

A lot of the games being mentioned (not just these) aren't underrated. People are just naming games that were a critical success but commercially didn't do so hot because collectively, gamers are stupid.
